Applying to Summer@Brown

This coming summer I am planning to get into either Harvard Secondary School program or Summer@Brown precollege program. If you have attended either of these programs please share your experience! Also Brown asks a series of questions in which you have to answer in a brief essay form. I’m currently doing that right now and since I am applying for a scholarship, I feel it needs to be top notch. Can someone also mind taking a look at the essay and give advice? Thanks :]

I think Summer@Brown is better for high school kids. My daughter went last year and the classes are designed for smart high schoolers. Classes at Harvard Summer School on the other hand includes quite a few college students. High School students get disillusioned quickly when they realize they aren’t going to get A’s.

I have already been accepted to the Summer@Brown program for this coming summer, and I don’t think that the essay really affects your chances of a scholarship. The scholarship is based largely on need and merit - when they say “merit,” I assume that they’d be looking at your transcript, which will tell them a lot about you. Plus, a lot of people here on CC who’ve already attended the program say that the essay doesn’t exactly count for much. I’m sure you’ll be fine :)
