Hi all,
I am going to be a senior this year and have mostly been looking at selective colleges such as UChicago, MIT, Ivy League, etc. My ACT scores, GPA, EC’s are good but, as I looked at course loads of other students applying to these schools on CC, I’ve become worried that my course load isn’t tough enough to gain admission.
Here’s my problem: My school makes the schedule virtually the same for every student for freshman and sophomore year (5 core courses each year, no advanced options) so all I have for those two years are Honors Math classes. During my junior year, I took two Advanced classes (Chem and Stats) along with 3 college science courses at a university near me (ranked as top 50 college in US). Next year I am planning to take 3 Advanced classes (Physics C, Econ, CS) along with the equivalent of Calc AB and BC at university.
I have really been trying to ramp up my course load junior and senior year, but am worried that I can’t compete with students who have been taking AP’s since freshmen year (and are taking up to 7 by the time they’re seniors). Do you think I will have a lower chance of getting accepted to these schools because of my relative lack of Advanced classes/AP or IB scores? Also, my school is private so do you think that will have any affect on what admission officers assume about how difficult the non-advanced classes are?
My ACT scores, GPA, EC’s are good so I really feel like course strength may be the main thing holding me back… Thanks to anyone who replies to this ridiculously long post. LOL.
Just for more reference on what my school offers, there are 12 Advanced Courses (none in English, so that sucks) and I will have taken 8 (or the college equivalent) by the time senior year ends.
