Applying to Transfer from UIUC Engineering to Northwestern Engineering

Hey guys,

What do you think my chances are at transferring from University of Illinois to Northwestern as a junior transfer? Here is some info:

HS GPA: 3.95 Weighted
SAT: 780Math/650Verbal
ACT: 31
College GPA: 3.72

I'd say my EC's are more a less middle of the road. Nothing spectacular but there are definitely some impressive things.

Also, does it help if my father works for NU as a researcher?

I applied out of HS but was rejected btw.

Thanks in advance and any input is appreciated!

Bump, Need help!

why would you transfer to nu because uiuc has a better engineering program and also you need to have college stats. i do not think that nu cares about hs GPA and SAT.

My college GPA is listed.

You have a pretty good shot. I wouldn't say its a true match, because NW doesn't accept a ton of transfers. But you definently have a great shot!

And don't listen to people who say "why are you transferring, you're school _____ has a higher ranking than _______ (school you want to transfer to)". They're stupid, and it should be up to you about what you want out of you undergrad education, especially in such a inelastic major like engineering.

Alright thanks for the feedback. Anyone else?

I should also mention I have no SAT II stats. Would this be a cause for concern?

Have you figured out what they would do about your lack of Engineering First courses (the rather unique first-year curriculum at NU)? Are you sure they allow you to place them out? They may not take any transfer into the engineering school because of this difference in curriculum.

Ugg...the EA sequence was soooo annoying.

Is the engineering school particularly harder to transfer into because of that program? I've looked everywhere but I can't find transfer stats for the McCormick school specifically.

It's more an issue of compatibility. You should talk to the dean and sought that out first before putting any effort onto the application. There's no point to apply if they can't reconcile the difference.

Well I've taken all of the courses in that program at my school. I don't think its a huge deal since people do transfer into eng. I've already wrote all my essays and gotten my recommendations so I would apply anyway at this point.

That's cool. I can see how they can let you place them out since they can just pretend they are still using the traditional curriculum. The program is supposed to get students exposed to engineering and design early. They aren't prerequsites for any of the upper level-classes you are going to take.

Would anyone else like to chance me? Only received one so far :)
