applying to UCLA and Cal next year.. will be taking classes needed while applying..

So far, I have everything done for my major (architecture)except for two studio classes, physics, and one english class.
I keep reading that if you don't have some of these done, they don't even consider your application. I didn't know this til now and I'm hoping it's a rumor!!
Can someone confirm if it's a myth? I'm applying next fall and I still have all these classes I need in order to transfer :/

not that they don’t consider the application… more like it would be considered a huge disadvantage. Is this true or false?

What did you expect? You have to have your major pre-reqs done. Period.

the number one factor for consideration to UCLA is completion of major pre-reqs. so yes, its true. missing 1 or 2 might be ok if you have a super high GPA and a really overall impressive app. missing 3 is really pushing it. missing 4, forget about it. this is my experience with my application process for engineering but I’m sure it carries through for other majors. but you still have a whole year. thats plenty of time to complete 4 classes. should be no problem

i heard that you get screened out completely if it’s a impacted major and you’re missing classes for ucla and Cal. it’s really competitive. maybe one is ok…

hmm… I’m not sure I phrased my question correctly.
I haven’t even applied yet. I will be applying next fall and completing all this next year.
So, if you all understood my question the first time, they basically expect you to have everything done with before applying?? That sounds a bit absurd!

I have a pretty high GPA (~3.8) and a lot of ECs related to major, work experience, honors society, and hopefully internship this summer.

Should I just apply the year after? Uggghh I don’t want to have been at a CC for 4 whole years!

oh you will be fine if you will have all of them done before the semester that you will transfer into the college. summer does not count. having them done before you apply is looks good but it wont disqualify you if you havent.

If you complete all of them by the end of spring before transfer, it shouldn’t be a problem as long as you don’t leave a bunch of them for your last semester.

ok… so during the application process, it is fine to have a few missing.
But, of course, you need to have completed everything in order to attend.

I hope this is true. A lot of people are saying they were penalized for completing classes after sending in their applications. Which I found odd…

it depends. for some tag programs, yes. but for regular admission. it doesn’t look super good if you have to take a lot right before you transfer in. like what LAforlife said.

Thank you guys! I appreciate the clarification :)

i think you misunderstood my response. you said you were applying this fall, which means you would perspectively be admitted the fall after that. which means you have a year to complete the classes
