I'm currently a college freshman, a Pre-Business major, at UC Riverside. I intend to transfer to either Santa Clara University or University of San Diego next year.

This quarter, my GPA will probably be around 3.0-3.2. My high school GPA was around a 3.2. I also got waitlisted from USD last year, and I didn't apply to SCU last year.

What do you think my chances are?

Also, these are my classes in college.

Quarter 1 Classes:

Microeconomics
Calculus for Business
English 1A (Writing)

I haven’t finished the quarter yet, so I don’t know my final GPA for this quarter, but I’m estimating around a 3.0.

Quarter 2 Classes:

Intro to Computer Science
Statistics for Business
English 1B
Macroeconomics

Bumping this thread

you might consider dropping out of UCR and enroll at a community college. they get priority and you can get guaranteed admission at UCSD, if you REALLY want to transfer

I’m applying to University of San Diego, not UCSD.

From the SCU transfer FAQ on the school’s website:

Do I need a certain GPA to transfer to SCU?
Yes. SCU requires a minimum GPA of 3.5 to apply to the Leavey School of Business and the School of Engineering. The College of Arts & Sciences requires a minimum GPA of 3.3.

I get the sense that at least in past years SCU was not too strict about these minimum GPAs, however they may be more strict these days. I know in prior years students with 3.0 GPAs getting into Arts & Sciences… however, I think transfer is getting more competitive each year for SCU and in particular, the school’s Business School is gaining in reputation which also pushes the GPA for transfers up.

With a 3.0 transfer GPA, I think your transfer acceptance into the Business school is very unlikely. And a transfer into the Arts & Science majors also quite low. Apply if you are very passionate about the school choice and see what happens, but definitely have a back-up plan.
