I visited Wesleyan today and fell in love, however, my SAT scores are just not there (yet…). Summed up:
GPA: 4.7 (weighted out of 5, unweighted is probably around a 3.8 - 3.85 based on when I last checked)
Junior Year Grades:
H Biology - A-
H US History - A
H Chinese 4 - A-
H English - A
ACP Pre Calc - A-
SAT: Currently 1410 (740 reading/writing, 670 math)
I plan to take them again October 7th, and November 4th. If I study 4 hours every day for the next month (where I would then be taking it in November), I am hopeful I could reach my target of at least 1530.
SAT IIs: I did not do well and will not be submitting any subject tests…
Senior Year Courses:
AP Psychology
AP Biology
H English
H Calculus
H Chinese 5
H Photo Intensive
Major: Biology, Psychology, or potentially Neuroscience
Letters of Rec:
1 from my sophomore english teacher (yes, 10th grade, however he has a pretty recognizable name and I was very close with him, 9/10)
1 from my junior & senior year biology teacher (relatively close)
1 from my boss from my summer job as a camp counselor (I am writing my essay on this job, not that that’s relecent, but I am very close with my boss, we have a great connection)
Should I get one from my english teacher this year? Wesleyan accepts 4 letters of rec
Ethnicity: White/Middle Eastern
State: Massachusetts
Gender: Female
Extra curriculars:
4 years of photography club
4 years of Chinese culture club
Member of NHS since junior year (first year I could join)
Member of NCL (National Charity League) for the past 6 years (have held positions such as historian, parliamentarian, recording secretary, cultural chair, and social chair)
Skiing for 10 years, was on a team outside of school for 2 years (9th and 10th grade) however, I got too busy to continue
I also coached little kids for awhile (about 2 years)
Job experience:
I have been going to the same summer camp for 8 years, have been working there for the past 3 years (summer going into 10th grade, 11th grade, and 12th grade). I held positions has a junior counselor 1, junior counselor 2, and this year senior counselor.
Will not need financial aid
My high school does not do class ranks, but I’d say I’m in the top 10-15%
I WILL be going on an interview at Wesleyan, which they recommend.
OTHER NOTE:
My high school uses “Naviance” to compare our GPA/SAT to other students from our school that have applied to schools in the past. I factored out I am the blue dot. OBVIOUSLY I need to raise my SAT score, there is no question about that. HOWEVER, Wesleyan IS also TEST OPTIONAL. Thoughts? The first picture shows kids that have applied early decision and their results. The second picture shows both early decision and regular admissions results. The last is a key for the different symbols. I really love this school and am showing as much interest as possible. If I submitted SATs scores (like a 1530) along with having a solid essay, my current GPA, decent senior year grades, and having gone on an interview (conducted by the schools current seniors), would I have a chance? What could I do to further help myself?
