Hello! I am planning on applying to Wesleyan ED1 next month and was wondering about my admission chances. I like the open curriculum and am looking for a small liberal arts school in the northeast.
My school doesn’t report GPA, but given my transcript I’d say it’s about 3.8 UW and 4.1 W.
ACT: 33
Course load (school doesn’t offer honors classes just AP):
9th grade english, history, french 3, geometry, biology
10th grade engish, french 4, advanced algebra, chemistry, history
11th grade AP Lang, AP french, APUSH, AP Chemistry, precalc
12th grade AP lit, French 6, AP world, AP physics, calculus
Extracurriculars:
Volunteer EMT (certified last year)
work at a local French cafe
Editor-in-chief of highschool newspaper
co-founder of school's Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Association
varsity lacrosse and squash for 4 years
President of school's science publication
I am undecided, but interested in journalism, creative writing, anthropology/archaeology, medicine, and history.
I am half white and half asian and go to an all girls school with about 80 kids in each grade.
What do you think my admission chances look like? And what similar schools should I look at?
I think your chances are as good as any other; you’re qualified, but Wes gets a lot more qualified applicants than it can accept. Your ACT is great – Wes is test optional, but I’d send that in. It helps.
I’d expect your chances to be perhaps somewhat greater than Wesleyan’s overall acceptance rate. However, Wesleyan’s acceptance rate is very low. ED1 could help.
Consider Connecticut College.
And
For LACs with notably flexible curricula, look into Smith, Hamilton and Amherst.
Hey there! I’m also applying to Wesleyan ED and I’m a little worried about whether I’ll get in or not. I’m going to visit and interview on Wednesday (10/10), and I’ll let you know if it’s worthwhile going to interview and if I felt like it influenced their decision. The school, while still competitive, is super nontraditional and holistic, so their application review process is much more tailored to the individual rather than test scores and GPA. They are definitely interested in the students more than the numbers. Good luck in your application process and I hope all goes well!!
PS according to a 2015 NYT study, Wesleyan’s ED application rate was just under 40%!! so I’d say your chances are pretty good
Thanks for the reply! I have yet to schedule my interview, but I’m nervous because theirs are evaluative and they don’t have any supplements, so I’m assuming the interview is heavily weighted? Also I’ve been told that early decision acceptance rates could be misleading due to athletic recruitment. Do you know anything else about it? Please let me know how your interview goes! Good luck!
Hey! I went today to tour and interview and it went super super well! My senior interview (Zain) asked me a bunch of in depth questions and just kinda followed my train of thought so it was an amazing opportunity to share what I was all about and the kind of contributions I would make to the school. I honestly highly recommend interviewing, it was clear that by really engaging and talking about myself and my passions, it was going to give the admissions people a lot more to work with in terms of my application. It was also just really helpful to ask questions and explore the school:) Also, don’t be nervous! It’s super informal and the interviewer just follows your lead (we talked about music and politics and all sorts of stuff!). And yeah, I think ED is really valuable but that high acceptance rate certainly doesn’t reflect in their stats for the class of 22. Honestly, I think interviewing is just a really important way to show interest and help them get to know you more! best of luck:) I’ll update you on any admissions decisions and we can really see whether the interview plays a large role or not.
Hey your informations are really helpful. Im applying to wesleyan myself but for ED 2 …l scheduled an interview quite late so. I dont know if it would still be possible. So I guess my question is how long did it take for your interviw to be set prior to the day you applied?.
