Applying to Yale RSEA

I’m applying to Yale RSEA. I have high ACT averages in the Reading, Science, and English sections on the ACT, but my math brought my composite WAY down. I am planning to take the October ACT but am unsure of how to go about reporting these scores (I know you can send them ahead of time). How do I make sure the admissions committee won’t dismiss the application entirely before receiving the October 27th scores?

What is your current ACT composite score? Looking at the ACT website, there is no guarantee that your Oct 27 scores will be released prior to a decision being made on your SCEA application. http://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/scores.html

If your current score is sub 30, I would strongly reconsider SCEA because you run a real risk of an outright rejection before a new score is available to report.

Yale requires all ACT scores to be reported if you choose to use the ACT. However, Yale allows self-reporting for students attending US secondary schools. Therefore, you could immediately self report your Oct 27 scores as soon as you receive them online instead of waiting to send an official score report. https://admissions.yale.edu/standardized-testing

@BKSquared yes to all your other points, but they will have already submitted their app by the time they receive oct ACT scores online, so their only option would be send them directly not self report.

for OP, Yale says the last testing date for SCEA is the October one, and only notes that people who take the November SAT will have their file first considered without those scores, so I think you should be good, but consider what BKSquared above. you didn’t give a number, so not sure what your composite is, but it might strengthen your app to wait until RD.

I’ve posted this before, but here it is again with an update for the OP.

Yale does provide for a self reporting mechanism after the App is submitted:

“Applicants who complete a standardized exam or receive a new exam score after submitting their application should use the “Update Applicaion” (sic) form available on the Yale Admissions Status Portal to self-report new scores, or list Yale as an official score recipient either on or in advance of the test date.”

In another thread, the OP’s says: (1) they are taking a gap year, (2) are a visiting student at a university, and (3) assumes they can apply as a freshman applicant to Yale and other colleges (http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/2100970-visiting-student-looking-to-reapply-as-a-first-year.html#latest) .

As such, I think the OP should telephone Yale Admissions and ask if they qualify for freshman application or transfer application. I’m concerned because Yale has specific instructions on their website for students currently enrolled in college coursework, regardless of matriculation: https://admissions.yale.edu/transfer-application-instructions
