Applying to Yale without visiting first

Would they even take me seriously if I applied and managed to get an interview, but didn't get a chance to visit the campus first?

Yes, they don't care about demonstrated interest. They don't need to with a 9.7% acceptance rate and a yield on the 70s.

They'll care A LOT more about arranging an interview and applying. Hell, if you're applying you have to be at least somewhat serious about Yale. Besides, they can nit pick your ass out for a variety of reasons- if they do, it won't be that.

They don't even track if you visit or not. It is just not important to them.

When I visited Yale they did not ask for any information, not even my name nor anyone elses name. Therefore the don't keep track of visits and it plays no role in admissions.

I would highly suggest visiting anyway if at all possible. I went into the college application process with a list of colleges that I thought I really liked. Well I was waitlisted at my first choice, so I went to visit my other choices. It turns out I didn't like them nearly as much as I liked their viewbooks and website. I was stuck with one of my lowest choices and feeling pretty trapped in a dead-end. I did get into my first choice, but things easily could have gone the other way. Just make sure you mesh well with the university, and keep in mind that the viewbook doesn't show you the university's flaws, and you need to evaluate those as well.

underthebelljar, Yale does not even know whether or not you visited prior to applying. They do not track this information. If you live in an area where an alumni interviewer resides, you may be asked to interview locally. There are many students each year who are admitted without visiting the campus OR interviewing. Of course, if it is possible, you should visit to get a sense of whether or not you would fit in there!

for a school that is such a reach I wouldn't worry about visiting unless it was convenient; IF you get in there will be admit weekend.
