My friend at OCC (local community college) told me he was going to apply to transfer twice. He said he would apply to one school for spring transfer, and another for fall (CALS & Hotel). I told him he probably should'nt because it might screw up his chances, but iI don't want to misinform him. Is this possible/acceptable by Cornell?

what college is he transferring to first? why doesn't he just transfer straight to cornell? Or are you saying he will transfer to CALS and then internally transfer to cornell? In the latter case it's fine. in the former case it's fine but the semester at the intermediate school won't help because he'll be applying to cornell before he completes any glasses at the intermediate school.

No no no, he wants to apply for transfer for spring, then he plans to subsequently apply for transfer to a different school for fall. That way, if he gets rejected from one, he still has a chance at another. Do you get it? It's kind of hard to explain....

i think I understand. He wants to make two simultaneous applications, one for one CU college/school spring semester admission, and for a different CU college/school fall semester admission.

I think this is a bad idea, but it's just a hunch. If they notice that he has two applications, even for different semesters, he'd probably have his chances hurt a good bit (even if not for rule breaking, because he would still look indecisive). I think there is a possibility of that occuring, because since there is so much computerization these days, he might come up in some database with two adjacent entries, or worse yet the computer might say "what's up with this second application, there is already an applicant with this name" and the rest is history.

anyway, I think he should just apply to the one he wants more, but the choice is obviously his. however, this is all just got feelings/hunches. I don't have any actual information on how they would react to this and I could be completely wrong.

Well personally I think you're right...even if it is allowed by Cornell, I think it's ethically wrong at least a little.

what about if you apply for transfer in the spring to a specific school at cornell, get rejected, and then apply to that same school the following fall? would that hinder your chances of getting in? because i want to get out of IC asap but i want to make sure my high school grades become a distant past. therefore i want to try spring of sophomore year but im afraid if i get rejected to AEM, i wouldnt be able to then apply again for fall admission, or have my chances severely decreased. what should i do. can someone shed some light?
