If i wont be as as strong as other engineer hopefuls should i apply as undecided or undeclared engineering to schools like Georgia Tech and Northwestern and UC Berkely and Purdue? I thought i was going to be a pre-med all of high school so all my ECs and my class schedule and rigor are geared towards pre-med but i have recently found a huge interest in industrial engineering and really hope that is what i study in my undergrad years help please thank you!

If you want to be an engineer, apply for ENGINEERING!
If a school won’t let you study what you want, DON’T GO THERE!

If you get in by applying for “undecided”, and then want to attend engineering classes, there is a VERY high chance that those classes will be filled and/or they won’t allow you to take those classes. So you’ll probably end up studying something like the hard sciences, and then maybe study Engineering in graduate school.

What you should remember while looking for engineering schools is how much you are interested in engineering. A very high number of engineering graduates from high ranking schools leave engineering and go into consulting and investment banking, and do very well there tbh. If you are serious about pursuing engineering as a career, look at schools strong at your area of interest in engineering, look at research work, and look at the resources the school in the engineering dept. Often you’ll see that many high ranking private schools fall short in this regard, and many public schools with student bodies and high acceptance rates look good in this regard.

In short, if you are interested in engineering, apply for engineering to a broad range of schools, the breadth depending on your level of interest.
