Applying US universities as an International Student - Do I even have a chance?

<p>Thank you guys. I am so lost right now - -
I am a Chinese student who came to Canada when I was in Grade 10 (Sep. 2006).</p>

<p>Location: British Columbia
NOT applying for any FA
and I gurantee that you've never heard of our school</p>

<p>Intended Major: Engineering</p>

<p>Status:
This school does not rank but I'm sure that I'm top 5% (out of approx. 320)
GPA: 4.0 </p>

<p>SAT:
Critical Reading: 630 (I hate English..)
Math: 800 (So you know that Im Azn)
Writing: 700</p>

<p>Math II :Score Pending
Physics : Score Pending
but I am pretty sure that I did well on those two...shouldn't be lower than 1550 combined..</p>

<p>Schedule:
This really doesn't matter anymore: there is only one AP course in our school, and it is in the second semester of Gr.12.
so no APs and IBs</p>

<p>ECs:
School Physics Society (11-12)(President)
Model UN (11-12)(Key member)
Mandarin Club (11-12)(President)
Choir (10-12)</p>

<p>Awards:
Canadian Math Contest (Gr.11) School Champion
And a lot of trivial school awards </p>

<p>Community Service:
-Volunteer Hour 120+
-Volunteer @ local Rec center every week
-Sichuan Earthquake Fund Raiser
-30 hour famine fund raiser</p>

<p>Schools
The only two on my mind right now</p>

<p>UC Berkeley
Cornell</p>

<p>I will apply Stanford and MIT too (don't expect much...just for fun I guess...)

<p>Being Chinese doesn't help you (I can be mistaken though). Lots depends on your essay</p>

I merely stated my ethnicity</p>

<p>Carnegie Mellon has one of the best engineering programs in the country. You have a higher chance there than at Cornell and Berkeley. Being a female at engineering helps too, regardless if you are Asian. </p>

<p>Kira, sorry for misunderstanding, I was being ironic. Since there are so many Chinese students it gets harder and harder for them to get in every year. But again, as GPA said, I think that scores+EC are quite good for the schools</p>

<p>Cornell and Berkeley are possible but I would not count on them. How about Case Western Reserve University? It's a great school with some great engineering programs and it is not as difficult to get into.</p>
