So I am going to be applying to oldfields all girls school and was wondering if anyone could give me a little advice on how to make my application unique and amazing I really want to get in. Plus if anyone can write about how boarding school is I would be so happy :D since This is my first time.

I say search around the site [using the search thing in that blue area near the top of the screen] for things like Application Advice or Boarding Experience. Good Luck

Hmm, well I’ll be attending an all-girls school this fall (Emma Willard, in NY) so I’ll be happy to offer any advise I can when I get there on the expirience and such. Right now all I can offer is how I got in.

I honestly don’t think I was an especially special applicant. I had decent recommendations, proofread my own essays, filled everything out on my own, and sorta sucked the life out of the SSAT. In my opinion the strongest point (for me) was the interview. I had a phone interview because I live way too far away, and I felt confident it went really well.

As for creating a really awesome application; do most things I didn’t. Study HARD for the SSAT, get multiple opinions on your essays, and try to get the best recommendations possible. Focus on a really killer interview, it’s way easier than you’d think. Have something different about you, something that’ll make you stand out ammong other applicants.

Going to Emma Willard this fall as well. Some advice PLainJane…
Pour everything you got into your essays! It is the only part of the application where you can show them how different you are from the rest of those apps. Anyone can have straight A’s. You want to stand out from the group. Add in any interesting pieces of your life to spark their imagination. Write academically. Express passion for learning not just academically as a student, but as a person and unique individual. Highlight your strengths and areas of particular interest. State your goals; what you want to do, where you want to go, and who you want to be, and how oldfields will help you to achieve this. Don’t just stick to the past; look to the future. Don’t be afraid to imagine the impossible.

Obviously in the other parts of the app you need to be at the top of your game. SSAT score. Transcript. Recommendations. As good as you can get them.

The interview is SO SO SO important! It is where they get a real feel for you. They must determine if you are bright, motivated, unique, and how you will contribute to the school. You MUST discuss the reasons WHY and HOW you will be asset to the school and contribute to the community. I had had five interviews (three off campus and two on campus) before I interviewed at Emma; which was by the way my first ever phone interview… kind of strange but I kicked but in it (or so says my dad who was eavesdropping)

Got to run. Placement tests and other forms are due tomorrow. TTYL. Good Luck!

wow ace i could not agree with you more!?!?!
i read an article on phillips andovers website in the dean of admissions journel and she said that about 80 percent of the students who are applying are academically capable of attending the school but the key difference in sifting out that group of 80 percent is the essays, personal statements, and interviews i cannot stress these key things enough. honestly when they got 80 percent of +2000 kids applying their not going to look at whose GPA is slightly higher and there not going to look and say “well we usually accept students who score 93 percentile on the SSAT so 85 percentile is not good enough”. thats just not realistic SSAT’s and GPA gets averaged and rounded off anyway during the admissions process so there just used to see whose academically capable and whose not.

Amen euk! It’s all about the individuality. The world is too competitive nowadays to go off of the academics alone.

Thanx all you guys for the help!!! I’ve never been to good at essays but I’m going to do everything I can to do an amazing job :D

GOOD LUCK!!! I’m rooting for you!!! Apply to Emma Willard too if you can. Great all girls school. Maybe see you there. But regardless GO GIVE IT YOUR ALL!!! OLDFIELDS!!! WOOT WOOT!!! =D
