what do you think of the school?-campus, and everything.. what do you think your chances are? is it your top choice school? will you be a boarder or a day student? please talk to me. ask for my sn.

I'm not but a friend of mine goes there so if you want any info I'd be happy to ask her for you!!!!!

hey! i applied as a sophomore boarder for 08-09. it was the first school i visited, and i was immediately charmed. its brilliant, and gorgeous. their athletics building is amazing, and the church! i'm not at all religious, but i love churches. it used to be a gym because someone stupid said that women shouldnt play sports, so the women disguised their athleticism. plus they have a prestigious reputation, and incredible academics, my favorite part. i love it. first girls school in the country too, amazing huh? its not my top choice, but is a solid second. very solid. like brass or marble. whichever is more dense.
chances? if interviews & recommendations mean as much as they say, then i feel pretty good about my chances. my interviewer was phenomenal, we seemed to get along great. did you apply to emma as well, or are you just curious for others experiences?

i already applied for 9th grade boarding. I'm a little nervous about my interview though because I don't think my responses were that good. well that-and all the interviewers left when it was time for me to interview so I interviewed with the financial aid director.

when did you interview there, and why were they all gone?? Where else did you apply?

I think it was nov 12. It was an open house and they were all gone because I stayed later and they wanted me to go see a class and do a tour so they said I could have my interview after lunch.

Oh I see. is emma willard your top choice?

yeah!!!!! but from reading peoples posts i feel a little weird that I'm not applying to Exeter or Deerfield or Andover or some school. I see their names everywhere.

emmers, you should pick the school that you think is right for you!

haha i know it gets a little old

I feel funny not applying to the top 3 schools. Yeah.
..

why? its so competitive that once you got in, it would be like a trillion tons of stress. not that stress isnt good, im a big fan of lots of work. however, balance is key. where did you apply crickett?

I applied for 9th grade boarding also! I've been in love with Emma every since I first set foot on the campus for GirlSummer 2 years ago. Everything about the school is so beautiful & rich in tradition. I would love to talk more about it, my sn is the same as my username.

I wanted to go to GirlSummer but it's so expensive!
One grand for less than a week?
I can't afford that!
Less expensive to go to NY by plane and look around...

Yeah i wanted to go to GirlSummer this summer too, but it's really expensive and my family's already applying for financial aid (full financial aid) so I was like "maybe I can earn/raise a few thousand before summer comes" and then I was like yeah right

jumpstartzoe, I added you to my buddy list. add me, my sn is yourstrulyemmers

emmers--you see the names Exeter and Andover all over these boards NOW, but wait until March 10 and you may hear a lot less! Almost every kid applies to at least one elite prep and the majority are not accepted. Many of those who have also applied to non-elites will be glad they did!

You are wise to have chosen your favorite based upon your research and personal impressions of the school itself and not because it was at the top of a list.

agreed. if you look at a list, almost every kid on this site applies to an elite. and although they all may score high, and may do the hours of community service and may think they are "the perfect fit" for these schools (they very well may be too) it comes down to how many kids the school can accept. plus, they're all very similar. why apply to all of them when you could get a diverse list of schools?

The whole elite thing seems so overblown all over this site, quite frankly, the academics at these schools are all the same. I know it is really easy to get caught up in the whole “HADES” thing, but really they’re not much different.
I got totally to revisit (I never went before applying so it was more a just a visit) Hotchkiss, yet, it turned out to be a major let down. Just do what’s right for you. If you work hard you can make any school work.

old thread, but good to see some emma around :)
