The packet just came today. DD has been accepted to the class of 2016 !!! Woohoo!!!

Is there a comprehensive “I got in” thread? I have started to hear of a few acceptance notices and we are waiting with baited breath. Son just got a major full ride+ scholarship at a good engineering school (have to accept by end of March) in addition to having a Type 1 ROTC offer and being accepted to MIT. He has 3 nominations - both Senators and Congressman. We really need to know the status of AFA admission!!!

Reminder, this is the Military! They will let you know when they want to let you know.

USAFA had better step on it if they want the best and brightest…other schools are getting their offers in front of the kids first.

It is a good idea to deposit your first choice civilian school while waiting for an appointment decision from USAFA. Even if you receive an appointment there is no guarantee that you will successfully complete BCT or even want to continue after that point. A deposit at a civilian school is a good insurance/backup plan “just in case”.

BTW - I doubt that USAFA will lose any potential cadets that have USAFA as their first choice just because they wisely deposited at another school while waiting for a decision. JMPO

The criteria for receiving an appointment to USAFA is so high that if anyone would walk away from an appointment because another school made an offer first, the slot would be filled very quickly by another highly qualified candidate. USAFA doesn’t take simply the “Best and Brightest”. They take the “Best and Brightest” who also are very physically fit, are leaders in their chosen activities, and have what the ALOs and Board think it takes to become an officer in the US Air Force.

I would also venture that anyone who would turn down an appointment because another school made an offer first would have a hard time making it through the Academy. You need to really want to be there more than anywhere else.

I feel AF will lose some top candidates if they are too late with their appointments this year. If May 1 rolls around with no appointment ,and a kid is forced into committing to another college, some will feel the right thing to do is to stick with that commitment. At best, it creates an awkward situation.

Completely understandable. For those who choose to stick with their commitment to a civilian college because USAFA took “too long” to notify them of an appointment…the civilian college would probably be the better choice…for them.
