Has anyone from the alternate poll received an appointment?

Mail just arrived here in Richmond, VA...nothing from New London!

I don't think any have gone out yet. Think March 1st.

nothing here in Pasadena, MD just yet...

I got off this morning with an AO and he told me that I have been put in the alternate pool. Those letters and stuff are coming out right now. I imagine if they are just putting me in the alternate pool they haven't even started looking at the alternates yet and are probably going to start in on that process fairly shortly.

So did they give out any appointments or just add to the alternate pool

He made it sound like they gave out appointments. He basically told me that I was still very competitive and in the running just that at that time they were not offering me an appointment. I don't really know how many regular decision ones they gave out and everything. Just give it time. the alternate pool from what I understand is a little bit of a rollercoaster ride. they are going to be constantly pulling people out of the pool from now till July 2 so just keep your head up and keep bothering them. I call like every friday and check in and see what is new or if anything has changed and chat with him a little bit. Just don't let them forget about you and make sure you keep them updated with accomplishments.

I talked with coach grant today and he told me that they will probably be doing another review in a couple of weeks. Just sit tight guys. Also just an interesting note he said that out of the 6 kids he was recruiting for baseball and football only one got a direct appointment. He said that they [the athletic department i'm assuming] haven't had as much weight as in years past. thought it was an interesting note.

Thanks for the update: I to spoke with a football coach this past Friday he said that it depends who review the file. Some reviewer see coach

I just got my appointment letter today, 2/16. I'm so excited! I was on the messageboard on the CGA website and they mentioned reading Running Light for preparation. Does anyone know where I can purchase this? Also, does anyone know how to register for the Beansprout Program? I emailed my admissions counselor.
Thanks! :]

Thats really weird. They took it off the shop coast guard .com website it was on there. Good job hopefully those of us on the alternate list will be seeing you soon.

Congratulation!! Ksenior07 A few question for those still waiting:
Where you an alternate?
How were you notified?

Congrats KS! Welcome to the CGA family.

As far as the Running Lights, you can probably pick one up at the bookstore when you Beansprout. The AO will set you up for that. But don't get too concerned about studying that stuff pre-R day. More on that later.

Thanks boss!

And to answer longrun12's question, yes I was an alternate. I was notified by mail.

what were your stats like if you dont mind me asking?

Advice to KS and others accepted at CGA.

More important than studying Running Light are the following:

Keep working out, running, swimming, etc. Get yourself in the best shape of your life. Eat healthy.

Work at keeping up your grades; try to avoid "senioritis" if possible. You don't have to kill yourself but don't slack off either.

Enjoy your senior year but try to avoid any legal entanglements which could jeopardize your appointment.

By all means visit the Academy on the Beansprout program. This will give you a good idea of what life is like there. If your guide is a tad cynical take it with a grain of salt. 4/c year is very tough on them so they tend to complain about a lot of stuff. :D

Make sure you are going for all the right reasons; not because it's "free", "cool", or what mom and dad want.

Good luck to all who make it. If you want any more sage advice ;) just ask.

.... Bosss.... can you make them give me an appt.? hahaha....

no but seriously... please?

KS where are you from?

Ha ha CB I wish. Don't give up the ship...oops wrong service...ha ha but you get the picture. Remember the latest round of appts. just started(as I predicted earlier :D).

CB where you're from is not that critical with CGA. They don't have any geographic quotas. There are certain states that are heavily repped though, such as NJ, NY, CT, MA, FL, CA, MD, VA.
