I'm from Long Island, NY.
Where are you from CB?

My dd got her academically qualified letter today. She was a little late in getting everything in. She was told she'd have a decision in four weeks.

Congrats to dd! I'm lovin' this. The plot thickens!

Congrats too Ksenior. Hey! Its cold on LI I hear. :D

Keep the faith everyone waiting.

well I was just curious about his state in comparison to mine for mail reasons... I might not of gotten the mail yet.

CB,

I wouldn't worry about getting the mail yet, unless you have sent additional scores/grades in Alternates don't get a second look until after the March 1st deadline passes. I'm assuming KS sent grades/scores in and that was considered significant enough to take another look and earn an appointment. Once the deadline passes, during early March etc. they will start a review of Alternates with available slots going to the highest scoring Alternates. As they develop a better picture about the appointment letters sent out; who's coming and who has declined....and they have until May 1 I believe to acknowledge, they will continue to pull Alternates off the list until the class is filled. As you can see from this scenario, if you are on the list and not picked early on, you could wait until the very end to find out. Keep the faith, I

It appears that Ksenior is the expert at the moment.
As an alternate that has a appointment she can explain to the group what she has did since receiving the alternate letter.
Ksenior where you an early action applicant?
Did you submit better SAT/Grades?
Anything else you can add will be helpful

Yes I was an early action applicant. I sent in my first trimester grades which were basically all A's. I kept in touch with my Admissions Officer and I went in for an interview. I visited the campus 3 times and I went to the STEP program. I think that's pretty much all I did. Good luck to everyone!

Thank you Ksenior

You're welcome. Good luck longrun and everyone else!

My son was an alternate last year for the CGA. I know this is a very, very difficult time for anyone who is in this position. It was a stressful wait. He was a very strong candidate and also attended AIM the summer before. The point of my comments is that he did get an appointment and now is a cadet in the class of 2010; however, the appointment did not come until mid/late April and this is not unusual at all. If I could, as a parent, give any other alternates any advice, I would say to try to get involved with keeping your mind off the mailbox on a daily basis. If you are involved in a spring sport at your school, start focusing on it. For my son, he was getting close to giving up, but now that he is there, he knows how may other cadets got their appointments off the alternate list long after they thought they would have heard. If you feel like you need to do something, it may not hurt to pen a few lines (just a few strong lines) to your admissions representative. Tell them you are still very interested and let them know you are still out there waiting and that the USCGA is your first choice. I hope that helps in some small way.

Oh, and don't be entirely suprised if your notification comes not through the mail, but through a personal phone call from admissions. For my son, the mailed appointment information came a bit after the initial phone call from his admissions rep. It sounds like some of the cadets got their initial offer of an appointment via phone or email.

Has anyone received an appointment lately

None here but i did talk to admissions yesterday to see if they received my letters of recommendation and an article i sent in and it sounded like they were going start reviewing files again soon. she said that it should go out for review soon. Didn't say exactly when though:( Oh well. Keep plucking along. Oh and it never hurts to be religious about this time right now:) Maybe some prayers or two.:) Call in some favors.

Nothing new from here either. DD was told within four weeks so that would be St. Patrick's Day. :D

same, nothing new, finally got in touch with AO but was unable to pull up file, will tell of my status soon though

will keep updated

Alright great news from the west coast. I just received word after i got off the phone with my AO that I am recieving a conditional appointment dependent upon my completion of NAPS. :) I'm ecstatic. its one more year added on but it will afford me the opputunity to graduate higher in my class with the strengthened academics NAPS will give me. :) Keep your heads up guys things will start rolling in soon. Also I do not know that they have offically started reviewing files in the alternate list. I never received official written word that I was put on the alternate list which i kind of expected. So I may never have been actually added to that list.

WOO HOO...good job HB! NAPS will be a great preparation for you and I know they have a good baseball program. Keep us informed and good luck! :D

Great job HB! From what I read NAPS is a great opportunity when you get to USGA R-day you will be older and wiser

Hey Congrats Man!

Congratulations HB! I guess I'll see you on R Day. :]
