Hi All: The following was posted on the USGA bulletin board by an AO. I would think that there is about 100 - 125 appointments left.

There have been about 275 appointments given out so far.

any idea when the final decisions will be made and mailed off?

Hi Longrun, we saw the AO posting on USCGA admissions bulletin board and came to same conclusion as you did...400 total appointments minus 275 already given out leaves 100-125 more to go! My son is still wearing out path to mailbox! in anticipation of receiving one! Maddening! There seems to be a pattern? Appointments received 15th of December and then again on 15th of February (based on postings on this CC website) so we are guessing perhaps 15th of March? Which would mean just a few days away...

wanabuscgamom hope you are right that March 15th will be day for more appointments. This waiting process is hard my son keeps saying I just like to know one way or another

yea...is anyone else starting to think its been too long?

Feels that way some times. My son heard March 29.

sigh...

I hope I get in, they would be losing out, haha (in me and my familys opinion)

OK, looks like I was wrong with my "guess" that more appointments would be received today since others received theirs on Dec 15 and Feb 15...there seemed to be a pattern with 15th of month. I will be on vacation 3/19-3/25 and I have to admit, it will be such a relief not going to mailbox all week. Has your AO ever returned a call or answered an e-mail you've sent asking about "status?" Not mine. No news is good news?

same here, no news really...

He said he was gonna try and get my file into the next review session, whatever that means....(good/bad?)

Well spoke to some lady (no name was said) and I was told that my file is still an alternate and that she has been told that no more appointments will be made for another four weeks...

The question is did they make any appointments this week. Are they still at 275!
It does not make much sense to wait 4 more weeks to make the final 100 appointments.

yea... I understand where you are coming from. Guess we will just have to wait and see, we have done all that we could of done.

What is going on up there in New London? I am starting to feel a bit deranged...like if the mailman doesn't bring an appointment for my son today, I might have to jerk the mailman out of that little USPS jeep and pin him down and choke him right there beside the mailbox. Do you think that's normal? I'm usually pretty stable, volunteer at the art museum, member of DAR, serve meals to homeless. This waiting has sent me "over the edge"

that is not normal, but neither is this process -- so...........

I only hope your son wants the appointment as much as you do.

The problem we all face is that the flow of information on where an applicant stands in the process is zero. With the college decision date coming upon us it would be good to know the chances of getting an appointment. If the alternate pool was ranked and shared with the applicant then you would not have to run to the mail box.

Anyone from Michigan given an appointment?

One thing I tried to convey to my son was the fact that this application window, regardless which college or academy he wants to get into is not limited to this year and this year alone. I think we all get understandably stressed out about it and we all want something to happen for this year etc. we all want to get on with our lives. I suggested to my son that he consider his decisions in the context of his lifetime; waiting one year now is not much of a sacrifice to make when compared to the opportunity to pick a career path that you really feel you want to pursue. He also mentioned enlisting as an option and I suggested he consider instead taking his freshman year at another college, local etc. and then reapplying. I don’t know if it’s true as well at the CGA but from what I have read about a third of the incoming class at the Naval Academy is at least one year out of high school. There’s something to be said for picking up another year of maturity and some college experience as well as the chance to improve grades etc. We’ve also been told that this delayed entry is looked upon favorably both in terms of the maturity of the applicant as well as a demonstration of determination and sincerity in terms of their application. Hang in there and good luck.

RJ you are on target...enlisting in the CG is not a good option from what I have been told by admissions people and others familiar with the Academy. I don't think the number of entrants at the CGA with a year of college or prep is that high but there are a significant number. But you are right that applying in this kind of scenario is looked upon favorably by the powers that be.

anyone hear any news?
