Approaching college professor for internship as lab assitant

I’m from India and lab internships and all aren’t really a thing here but I’m really interested in working in a lab along with a professor and conducting research but the thing is that I’m not really sure about how to approach them. So it’d be really nice if someone could help me with this :stuck_out_tongue:

I felt the same way a few weeks ago, but just decided to email a prof that had come to give a lecture at our school. I said that since she was willing to come lecture dumb high schoolers, than maybe she could give advice on how to get an LA spot? Then list a bunch of papers you’ve read of theirs and say your interests specifically, show passion and ideas, attach resume and contact info and stuff. Worked for me!

Usually profs want people to assist with their research (if they have space at all). They want people who are interested in the prof’s research, are smart and learn quickly, are reliable, and are willing to work hard no matter what task they are given. And best if you are free. Thise are the traits that make it more likely that they will take a chance in you. It takes time from them or other experienced people in the lab to train you, so most profs are kind of picky.
