Am reading the April 20-21 Visit post, envying the group bonding and feeling lonely and upset because I'm going on the 10. Anyone else coming then? Anyone coming then and willing to wave happily at me should we cross paths so I don't find myself lost and alone...a prefrosh dying in an oasis of squiggly Chicago wonderfulness.

I am considering this strongly, particularly since I have spring break throughout that week and have little else to do. However, I have visited the campus several times, and it would seem somewhat pointless to spend two days at the campus simply going through the same tours and information sessions that I have already sat through.

Would it actually make sense to take part in this?

I guess this is really a question for anyone who has attended one of these things before...are they at all valuable for admitted undergrad students?

yeah, im going during the 10/11th. Should be great!

It is valuable to those trying to decide which college to chose.

HEY! I have a really important question that I'm hoping someone here could answer...

In attending the april 10/11th programs, it says that my RSVP "must be received by april 3rd". How can this be possible? I know a lot of people didn't even get their acceptance letters until today, the 3rd. Will it be okay if i RSVP online on the thickenvelope website tomorrow?

I'm planning on going on April 10-11.

I've visited before, but I want to make sure that I'm making the right decision between my schools. You will also have the opportunity to spend a lot of time with students and prospectives, which normal visit tours/info sessions don't really allow. There are lots of speakers about different aspects of the school and stuff, too.

I'll be there!
I am really excited, this is when I will decide what kind of dorm (single double bla bla bla)/ where I want to live. I like that I will be able to see the type of kids I will be spending four years with.

and to JUBA. They said just send them when you can, (I think the quote was "tuesday, wednesday, or even thursday! Just let us know."
So don't worry about it.

i'll be at the 10th-11th overnight, and i'm easy to find if you'd like to come say hi, i WILL be the shortest one there.

I faxed mine. But I haven't gotten any sort of confirmation or anything which is freaking me out...

Yay! Good to know people will be there. What are your AIMs?

the only confirmation they'll give you is on thickenvelope.uchicago.edu, a little check box will be checked off saying they know you're coming. if you're really worried, just call the admissions office, they're really helpful.

<--aim

'allo allo. Just here to say that I'm leaving tonight for the overnight (I'll be staying with my cousin) and if anyone else is coming to the 10-11th overnight post! It'd be lovely to meet you!

Okay, I just looked at the planned events in the e-mail. Are the choices that are offered within one block of time, choices, or do we have to attend all the events? How will this work? I've already taken a campus tour...and yet there's space for two more...and I reallly don't want to take two more campus tours.
Is there going to be some amount of blank space?

i doubt we have to go on all or any of the campus tours... i'm sure there are degrees of freedom. i've taken one already, too, and we could always just go walk around campus if you wanted, since i'll be there.

Pyramid,

It is kind of a "do whatever you want" type of thing. You can take a campus tour, visit the dorms, attend classes, eat lunch at Bartlett or whichever dorm they assign you to eat at, etc. Or, you can just hang out. It really is not structured to the extent that you HAVE to do X at a specific time. There are events in which you can participate, though, but it is up to you to make your schedule.

I am not officially attending the overnight, but I live in Hyde Park and will be on the Quads then, so I will keep my eyes peeled for prospies and their parents! Or you may even sit in on the class I am auditing. :)

Well this is my last CC post until after the overnight. See you in 2 days...

or tomorrow.

Ohhh. I am going. I'll be sitting in (pending approval) on Greek Thought and Literature class for sure. Looking foward to it.

I know that this overnight is over, but for people going on the next one, I would personally recommend being careful about sitting in on HUM/Sosc classes since if you havnt done the reading you most likely will not understand whats going on. They may still be interesting but there are probobly classes more suited towards visitors where the teacher actually has something to present. Maybe a civ class or a world music class. Lecture classes will always be good too, a section of 130's level physics will be understandable (and entertaining if you visit the MWF section) or you could try to sit in on Econ 198. They may not tell you to since its pretty much the largest class on campus and the room is fairly packed but if you are on campus monday or wednesday at 1:30, Econ 198 is usually pretty entertaining. It meets in Kent 107 and there is certainly a reason it is so popular.

the bio elective classes are REALLY good...

and then i went to semantics-2 because i am a nutcase. i'm still googling stuff trying to decode my notes. BUT IT WAS AWESOME.
