<p>another way to think about it is that only the CORNERS of the cube touch the sphere, the sides of the cube do not. since the sides don’t touch, when you find the diagonal, you are leaving out the small bits of space between the inside of the sphere and the cube’s outer edge.</p>
<p>therefore you have to find the distance from one corner straight across to another, then divide by 2 of course for radius.</p>
