So are the April open houses for accepted students more for regular decision students who are trying to decide which college they are going to? Would you recommend that I go?

It's geared towards convincing RD kids to pick Tufts, but I went as an EDI accepted student and I met a lot of other ED kids there, too. It's a great opportunity to check out your future school and meet your future classmates. If you can go, I'd really recommend it. I had an amazing time.

hi, i got accepted ED2...
do parents go to this sort of thing or would you recommend that I experience it on my own?

I was accepted ED1 and I was wondering if I should bring my parents . How long is open house? And what does it involve?

Where did you get the information about the April open houses?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing about parents...

I got in ED1 and they sent me information about the open houses a couple of weeks ago. I don't know if they have sent the info to ED2 yet.

What are the dates? My d. is RD, and doesn't have her answer yet, but I'm still trying to gather the dates for the various schools.

thanks

Most people separate from their parents for a good portion of April Open House, especially if you decide to do an overnight stay. I did it halfway with my parents: we all traveled up to Tufts, but we went our separate ways when I stayed over the first night and met up again for various things the next day like the campus tour. It depends a great deal on your level of comfort (and your parents' clingy factor). I would personally recommend that you spend some time exploring the campus independently, in some way, at some point.

mollyllom is right. The April Open House (AOH) program is geared specifically towards RD students trying to make a decision, and all the students present have been accepted already.

But! Every year ED students come, and every year they have a great time. Everyone is welcome to participate in the full compliment of AOH activities - with the only exception being the overnight. We strongly discourage ED students from trying to secure an overnight through our office. Of course, if you call people you know at Tufts and make arrangements on your own, no one's going to stop you. ;-)

So the open house is for RD kids who got accepted? Does the invitation come with the admit decision? When is the April open house?

The program is built for admitted RD students. The invitation comes with the admit decision. The AOH dates are Friday, 4/18, Thursday, 4/24, and Friday, 4/25 (of April, of course).

Shameless Plug: Want to know how I found the information? I searched the Student Intern Blog: Mumbo Jumbo: Student Outreach.

Thanks Dan! I didn't think to look at the blog.

I had found those dates on the blog, and it said to register early if you want to spend the night in the dorms, but how can we register now if we won't hear until April 1? Will students who don't even know if they are accepted be able to register? After April 1 doesn't allow much time to get airline flights, etc together.

Such is the nature of admitted student programs. It's an issue everyone deals with at virtually all 'Most Selective' institutions.

We put the dates out now so that families can be as prepared as the admissions cycle will allow them to be. Refundable airfare/hotels are always options, but most will wait until decisions are released to make their accommodations.

Registration is done on the admitted student's webpage - which of course isn't available until regular decisions are released later on.

Thanks for the info. We'll be sure to check out the website in April.

I think the waiting for decisions is harder on me than my child!

I did an overnight stay and it was one of my best nights at tufts. Now I'm a freshman and I hope to host one or two pre-frosh and show them a good time. I just remember meeting my parents for the open house at 8 in the morning after going to sleep at 4AM. I dont recommend that.

Hahaha!

That's one of my favorite parts of AOH. All the prospective students who are zombified from waking up so early. I am not a morning person, so I feel a great kinship with so many other sleepy people.

LOL yeah Dan, I remember that I had to get up early to turn in a paper by 9:30, and cursing the cheery sunlight. But on my way out of East I saw a kid with a nametag that said "Fair Lawn High School" and realized that I'd heard of him, so we stopped and chatted. Then I ran into you and Lee Coffin on my way back to South outside the Campus Center, amidst brown and blue balloons. If I recall, we went to Dewick because it was the only time all semester I'd been up early enough for breakfast :-D

RE: parents.
I flew from California (wooo, frequent flyer miles!) and my parents didn't come because that would have been very expensive. I may have been the only kid at AOH last spring without a parent. It was awkward. I would recommend you go with your parents. For the overnight, for sure you'll want to separate, but for all of the things during the day like lectures, classes, presentations, fairs, etc, you'll probably feel more comfortable with your parents there.
