i am very fluent in spanish (i lived in a spanish-speaking country for almost my entire life, and no, i am not Hispanic). im a soph. right now at spanish 3 and wish to take the SATII spanish to just take 1 or 2 more in junior or senior year (dpending on college admissions requirements)

so my question is: should i just take the SATII spanish right away or consider taking Spanish 4 (H) in junior year and AP spanish in senior year to receive weighted grade and to show consistency(?)? well, you know honorsclasses and APs receiving weighted grades, so..

Take the Spanish SAT II at whatever point you think you would do best at it. Taking it in soph year instead of junior year is not going to be any advantage if you think you will have a better score after junior year. Waiting until senior year would be okay, but don't wait until there might be a problem getting the scores to the colleges in time.

thanks dufus. but i think you quite misunderstood my question. i meant should i take spanish 4 honors and ap spanish to get a weighted grade in my transcript or should i just take sat2 spanish right now?

Are you learning anything in you Spanish class? If not, then it seems like it is a waste of time that you might be using for something else. Of course, I guess it is helping your gpa. If you take the SAT II and only have two years of a foreign lang in high school, you will need to include a little explanation in your app.

yeah, it's true. for ex. UCLA i think they require you 3 years of foreign language. Now im in my way to finish 2 years. since i lived for long time in a spanish speaking country, would that be an excuse or do you think requirements ARE requirements?

Common sense would say that they would make an exception. If you are already fluent in one FL, you don't have to take another one. I'm not sure about the procedure, though. The quickest way to find out, unless somebody else answers your post, might to call a college admissions office and ask.

Won't your high school let you skip a year of Spanish and just go directly to AP Spanish. That would seem to solve it. That would look clean to the college. Currently it looks like you took Spanish 1 and 2 without a reason.

yeah, my counselor told me skipping spanish 4 and go to APspanish was OK. though, ill try to take the SATII spanish first.

I'm not sure about your level of Spanish, but I guess I can strongly suspect that you are even going to walk thru the AP Spanish class. Your difficulty with admissions is that if you tell them that you are completely fluent in Spanish because you lived in a foreign country and that you want to qualify with only 2 years of a FL, somebody might wonder why you took Spanish 1 and 2. From where you are now, it might be better to take AP Spanish. That way you look real good because you have the required three years and, wow, you even took AP Spanish. I wouldn't normally recomend taking an easy course, but you're in a funny situation. At any rate, it would help your gpa, you'd have an extra AP class, and you can still take the SAT II.

yeah, true. btw, i never took spanish 1 or 2. till freshmen year, i was in another country. i came here in soph year (right now). hey, let me tell you, the spanish classes there are really hard. even the brightest kid in the grade got a B on spanish. hehe. spanish 1 and 2 is very low level for me. i basicallly skipped them; never took them.

Okay, it is the same situation but instead of explaining why you took Spanish 1 and 2, you would only have to explain why you took Spanish 3 (soph year).

I am pretty sure that you would be exempted from taking any more Spanish by taking the SAT II at the end of this year. It is up to you.

yeah, ill try to search about it. im preety sure they'll know why i skipped sp 1 +2. btw, my school allows to skip them if ur good at spanish, so..

Just take the SAT II. It cant hurt cause u mess up, take it again and the old one wont be looked at
