AP Spanish dilemma

I'm a sophomore, but I'm a year ahead in Spanish. I really don't want to take AP Spanish next year because I'm convinced I'll get like a 2, and I hate Spanish. Will colleges (Ivies) care if I just drop the language? Will they care that I've only had 2 years of Spanish (+1 of Latin)? I'd replace AP Spanish with AP Stat probably.

If there's a requirement for years of Spanish taken, then the college will care. Otherwise, they won't. The only thing is you'll have to take Spanish at whatever college you end up in for a year or two. By taking AP or some extra classes, you can place out of Spanish in college.

3 years always look better than 2.
with 1 year of Latin you might look indecisive.

I don't know about AP Spanish, but most colleges don't give credit for AP Stat.

If you're only counting the years of Spanish in 9-10th grade and you've had spanish before that also...or have you only had 2 years of spanish in total?

...How can you take AP Spanish at only Spanish 3? That's a Spanish 5 course....

Anyway... if you want to go to an Ivy League school, you need all the help you can get and taking all years of a foreign language is definetely good. I didn't have Ivy ambitions but taking my 7 Spanish courses including both APs got me into much better schools than my SAT score would have allowed regularly. Anything that can give you an edge will help to get into top colleges and I can almost guarentee that most people going to Ivy League schools have taken at LEAST 4 years of a foreign language, if not more.

yeah...
over here AP is year 5. At some schools its year 4...

Sounds like you need to have a little more confidence in yourself. In all honestly, if you take a language, the selective schools want you to take it to the highest offered level. I think you should take AP Spanish and do your best.
Odd that it's year 3 though. I thought it was 4, 5, and 6 for language and literature -- lit obvs the highest level.

Continue with spanish. If you are worried about the actual test, just don't take it. Go for the course.

do you think I could just not take AP Spanish next year? but take it senior year? I don't want colleges to base admission decisions on my AP score in spanish, but if I take it senior yr, I'll already be in college, so it won't matter.

hopefully, you won't forget your spanish in your junior year

how did you get ahead? summer school? or are you a native? I recommend you taking AP Spanish. I would have taken it next year if I have any space left on my schedule

btw, what kind of foreign language is offered at most colleges?

I was a year ahead too. I'm not a native speaker, etc. I took AP, and did not expect to do that well on the AP exam. I got a 4 last year, which is good enough for the school I'm going to. I would say take the AP class, unless you think that you will be miserable in the class itself, but don't base your decision on what grade you think you might get on the AP exam.

bumpettyy bump

heres my plan:
11th:
Hon Physics
Hon Precalc
AP Eng
AP US
AP Bio
AP Stat

12th:
AP Spanish
AP Euro
AP Eng 12
AP Chem
AP Calc
AP Art History if it's offered

I really think I'll be better off taking AP Spanish senior year. Plus, I'll be with all of my senior friends when I'm a senior....
