APs for College Students

green09:

I'm a college student, and do not plan on taking the AP tests again. I have heard that if, as a college student, you attain a certain GPA in various classes, the Academy will validate you for those courses. Don't take my word on that...I forget who or where I heard that, but I have yet to confirm it with my BGO or another official source.

I've just been taking classes similar to plebe year so I can be prepared for the validation tests.

Really? I was told that you will get 0 transfer credit. Otherwise, I would have been looking to take transfferable courses.

suggest going back to candidatemom's post (#16) for link to validation question- lists what can be validated, and how. Credits do not transfer in.

Zero transfer credit is correct. Validation is something different -- you don't get "transfer credits" for the course you validate, but you get to move up to a high level course, or substitute more electives. Before I Day you will be given a URL to log on to that asks for information about your college coursework and AP tests. Some courses validate on AP score alone, others require you to test and/or interview during Plebe Summer. Its all on the link candidatemom provided.

By the way, you can send your AP scores to the Academy, but if you are determined to be eligible for validation, they might ask you to submit them again -- I got a surprise call in the middle of Plebe Summer from my mid asking me (in a very professional manner) to please fax the score report asap so parents of AP students -- keep the document handy :)

Right, I meant that none of the college courses transfer in with credit. It's only APs and plebe-summer tests that can validate so I was just wondering if it really worth it taking the APs, or just taking validation tests.

That would be your call of course -- check out the link. Some courses validate without a test if your AP scores are good enough. If they aren't, you can still take the validation test. Keep in mind that Plebe Summer isn't necessarily the best environment for performing your best on a test ;) On the other hand, for some the tests are a welcome break (no one will yell at you for a couple hours at least...)
