bump on the ap question

I think there's a bit of response bias on this thread; i.e., the people who've taken lots of APs are the ones who post, and the people who haven't don't.

Nonetheless, Calc BC in 10th grade? What the ******?

Offered: 0

So far, 1 (as of junior year).
I am scheduled for 4 next year.
I think there are quite a few offered at my school, maybe just a few I haven't seen in the course catalog.

14 in all...15 if you count the AB subscore..

I would of taken all AP courses offered expect for Stats, Spanish and French. And AP World History but it's a freshmen only course :(

Everyone that goes to a school with 6 APs keeps flouting how it's more on "percentage offered" rather than quantity taken.

This is both fair, and unfair, true and untrue.

I would actually really LIKE if my school offered 5 APs rather than 22. I will have taken 11 by the end of Senior year, and the top ranked 4 students have taken 14-15 in total. If there were only 5, I could take the "most challenging schedule available", get more sleep, and according to most colleges, wouldn't be penalized for it.

A friend of mine went to MIT having taken 5 out of 6 APs offered in his high school. He was valedictorian - but due to weighting of APs, I would need to take at least 14 AP classes to be in the running at my school.

11th: AP Calc BC, AP English Lang, AP US History, AP Physics B
12th: AP Biology, AP English Lit, AP Stat, AP Music Theory, AP Psychology, might self study AP Latin

school offers....a lot...somewhere around 30 maybe?

9 or 10 out of those

In total, I will have taken the following AP's by the time I graduate:
US History
French
English lang
Physics B
Calculus AB
US Government

My God, I can't believe the number of AP's some people are taking....I would die!

I took or will take most of the AP's that my school offers except for Stats and Psychology

Sophomore Year

That's cool to see freshman AP tests.

We're homeschoolers here. We set the rules about when to take AP courses and when to take the tests. The policy of College Board is to make AP tests available to all willing students: homeschoolers, self-studiers of all descriptions, and high school students whose own schools don't offer a particular AP course. Here's my oldest son's picture so far:

7th:
first half of AP chemistry in local joint homeschooling class (no test)

8th:
2nd half of AP chemistry " " (still no test)
calculus AB topics in dual-enrollment course (no test)
AP biology in local joint class (no test)

Some of my son's classmates took the AP bio and AP chem tests last year, at least one with a lower school grade designation than my son, but I was sure my son would have the opportunity to retake those courses, so I saw no point in his taking AP tests as an eighth-grade homeschooler. Today, knowing more about how colleges regard test retakes, I might have had him take the tests in eighth grade.

9th:
calculus C topics in dual-enrollment course (took BC test)
AP U.S. history in distance learning course (took test)
AP physics B in distance learning couse (took test)
AP U.S. government self-study (related to distance learning course on another subject) (took test)
AP comparative government self-study " " (took test)
intro to C programming by distance learning
honors 10th grade English
Stanford university course on philosophy of government by distance learning (the related course to two AP tests above)

I'll be curious to see the scores in July.

10th (projected):
AP chemistry* by distance learning (taking test this time)
AP computer science " " (taking test)
11th grade honors English by distance learning
Chinese 1 and 2 by distance learning
Stanford EPGY mathematical logic by distance learning
Stanford history of science by distance learning
multivariable calculus by dual enrollment
POSSIBLE self-study or distance learning AP statistics (taking test if taking course)
POSSIBLE self-study AP environmental science (taking test if taking course)

AP chemistry next year may be instead be AP biology, depending on the online school's schedule for distance learning class meetings.

11th: full-time university dual enrollment, with partial enrollment in distance learning program, taking matchign AP tests.

12th: as 11th.

Not to sound rude, token adult, this is a thread to talk about which and how many APs you've taken, not to brag about your kids.

I would also raise the question of whether your son is doing this of his own accord or whether you are pressuring him into it.

Fair enough comment, but I'm just responding to the informational question in the thread. You'd have to meet us to decide who is pressuring whom.
