APs...Please Help!

Hi,

I go to a great private school. However, it offers very few APs.

Only Chem AP in 10th grade.

US History, English, and Biology in 11th grade.

Art History, English, Physics, Calc AB, and French/Spanish in 12th grade.

That is it. If I take a good % of those, which means all three in 11th grade and four of the five in 12th grade, will Penn/Wharton know that my school doesn’t offer many APs.

Thanks a bunch!

yes. your school sends out a profile (it should, anyway) telling colleges what classes it offers. it is based off of this that colleges see if u've taken the most rigorous courseload or not.
you can always self-study aps, too.

Thanks for the quick response. So if take a good % of those APs they will know I am in the most rigorous curriculum, correct?

yuuup. do well in them too, lol
if u do get into wharton, btw, self study macro and micro and statistics... if you spend a good time on these all year and take practice tests you should get good scores. then, if you get into wharton (actually most colleges will take credit for these), you can place out of these classes.

it'd be a lot harder to place out of bc calc by yourself, in my opinion... but the other 3 not as hard.

Wait.

Should I take Macro, Micro, and Statistics BEFORE I apply to Wharton or after I get in?

whichever year you think u have the most time... take one of the three (or two.. or three if ur really comfortable w/ the subjects)

you absolutely should not wait until u get in.. because that would leave you with a) no preparation/no time to learn it sufficiently and b) ... no chance to take it because registration is most likely over by then

however, school comes first. if u are struggling in school don't bother w/ the extra stuff.. that's only if u feel that ur not being challenged enough in school or can manage!

Would a summer course be good?

a summer course certainly wouldnt hurt, but i really dont think it helps you get in at all. there was another thread about this somewhere...

Honestly, I really don't think it matters if you self-study them or not. Just take advantage of the opportunities available to you and make yourself stand out from the crowd. If that means self studying, then go for it! My school only offers three APs total for all years, and I took them all (I did self study US History, too, but only because I really enjoy history). Make you the best you you can be!

sorry to hijack this thread, but i designated penn to receive my ap scores (i'm a junior) does this mean they'll see and take my scores into consideration? i've done well thus far... 5's in physics and chem... and calc/stat/bio this year... shouldn't be too bad

unless you got an A in ithe class and got a 2 on the exam, it probably will not matter.

hehe i got an A in my spanish language last year, and got a 2 on the exam!!!! yea, i sux at spanish---i did eeny meeny miney mo on the MC section cuz i really didnt understand the passages...
i wonder how i'm goin to do on next friday's spanish lit... im sensing a 2 again!!!

i got an A in calc and didn't do very well on the calc exam. ahem

is it easy to get a passing 3 on the AP?

in my opinion, yes.
it also depends on the caliber of your teachers sometimes. but for the most part i would say yes

however if you're aiming for ivies or tier 1 schools, you don't want 3's. you want 4's and 5's, hopefully mostly 5's

also keep in mind AP scores are, for the most part, optional to report to colleges. you do not have to send them or even put them on your application. however it can only help to say you got 5's or whatever

penn only really takes 5s. Don't bother with the ab calc test, it doesnt give you anything.

really...i shouldnt take calc AP?

if that's the highest math they offer take it. you'll get exposure to calc and actually be taking a good math.. just don't take the TEST.

listen to afa

right, so having a string of mostly 5's maybe 1/2 4's will help

note: i'm taking bc not ab...
