Of everyone on the Williams forum, how many of you have/had taken AP's before coming to Williams? Does absolutely no AP's in my junior year and only four AP's in my senior year hurt my chances for admission? Also, would it help at all if eitheir my school or I put on the application that people in my school can't take AP's until senior year? Thanks for any replies.

The rule of thumb at any of the most selective colleges is that successful applicants will have taken the most rigorous course of study that is available to them. I think that is something your GC should mention in your recommendation, and I don't think it puts you out of the running at all.

I go to a Vietnamese school and here they don't have APs. Is it gonna hurt my chances?

i don't think that it would put the candidates who are not offered AP courses at their schools would be at a disadvantage. I agree with driver. it won't hurtyour chances unless you have taken the most demanding courses offered at your school.

We have a totally different system and I don't even know how to accurately translate all of the subjects into English :((
All I have are my TOEFL score (670) and still waiting for my SATs
I did rather bad on my SAT 2 though: 710 and 700 for Math L1 and Math L2 but only 570 for Literature :(

I took one Jr year and 2 senior year and am doing fine here.

I took only 2 APs in high school and everyone thought it was going to matter – but apparently not! I got in and graduated in timely fashion and I had no problems. There are SO many other things you can talk about on a resume than AP classes! Good luck!

My D took 12 APs in total, after she got in , she realized many kids only took a few…

It hurts your chances only if you had APs available to you that you didn’t take, especially if you took the exact same class but easier. For example, if you had AP US History available to you, and then took Honors US History instead, that will be extremely hurtful, especially if it is a trend. But, if your school only has 5 APs and you took 4 of them, that’s fine.

I took 9 myself.

And yes, you should tell them of the schedule restriction. That falls into the same category as limited offerings.
