Soo...what schools offer Arabic and/or farsi as a major or minor!? Or maybe just even concentration

There are only about 17 schools that offer an Arabic major. These include Georgetown, University of Michigan and Dartmouth. Use the Collegeboard.com matchmaker to find other schools that have an Arabic major. Some colleges have Middle Eastern Studies programs, but usually these programs do not carry four years of Arabic language study. Georgetown is the best place hands down for Arabic and for international relations. If you want to study Arabic and work for the government after college, go to Georgetown. In response to your second question about Farsi, the only college I know of that offers a major in Farsi is University of Texas at Austin.

McGill in Montreal offers Middle Eastern Language as, I believe, a major.I also believe that Farsi is part of the course, and possibly Urdu (although we know that is the language of Pakistan).
Georgetown definitely-also check out Middlebury in VT.
Does my heart good to see so many young people interested in the study of foreign language-that was my major so many years ago.

UCLA offers it

I'm lucky that I know Farsi (Dari) already from speaking at home. I'm going to try to learn Arabic as well at Williams and maybe abroad hopefully.

Many schools offer certificates in Arabic, but as far as majoring it is usually within a certain department. I will be majoring in African Languages and Literature with a concentration in Arabic. Other schools offer Mideast studies majors.

As far as good programs in the language, Middlebury and Georgetown are prob the best. Wisc - Madison, Mich - Ann Arbor, and Berkley offer excellent programs.

You really need to study abroad to fully grasp any language. For arabic the American University in Cairo offers great modern standard arabic and egyptian colloquial courses. You can also study in Morrocco for the Maghreb dialect, Yemen for MSA, Lebanon for lebanese. Other dialects include Iraqi, I believe Saudi Arabia has its own dialect but it is very close to MSA. All newspapers, movies, and media in the Middle East use MSA or Egyptian colloquial.

Georgetown has an Arabic major, and also offers Farsi classes, and has a certificate in Arab studies (which is like a minor).

Berkeley's a good one.

Does anyone know if Middlebury offers a major in Arabic or just a minor? Because I followed the "Major" link on its website, but the only information I could find about course requirements is listed as a minor...

It appears as though it's a minor, although you may want to contact Linda Larocque, the Arabic Coordinator, to find out for sure.
