My High School Junior has an interest in Architectural Engineering as a major and Art History as a minor. She has begun researching the schools that offer the Architectural Engineering major. Any information anyone could provide about this major and/or the quality of programs would be much appreciated.

bump x

anybody?????

That's not that common of a major and most schools don't offer it. What kind of work does your daughter want to do?

Yea, it is a pretty uncommon degree and has only been recently recognized as a distinct engineering discipline. Here is a list of universities that offer the degree:

For information, wiki has a good article explaining this field.

Her interests are in Architectural, Environmental & Civil Engineering & she would like to minor in Art History, so she thinks Architectural Engineering might be a good avenue. She has the list of colleges offering the degree and would like any info anyone has about the program at any of those schools.

I can tell you that A&T is mainly black with over 98% of the people being black its one of the top engineering schools for african-americans I'm considering going there if I get a full scholarship over NC State we will see. I'm African-american if you don't know.

ArchEs....I do not envy their lives, at all. All the hard math of engineering, all the hugely time intensive projects of architecture.

CivE + some architecture/art history classes might be the way to go. Don't get caught up with "majors and minors" because I don't think your "major" means anything really, it's the classes you took and the knowledge you can demonstrate that matters.

The Engineering program at CU-Boulder looks good. They seem to offer everything my daughter is currently interested in (emphasis on currently) along with options to do other things if she should develop different interests.
Anyone have info/perceptions re the CU-Boulder school of Engineering?

Why don't you check out Penn State's site.

The PSU College of Eng. site: http://www.engr.psu.edu/

The Architectural Eng. Department site: http://www.engr.psu.edu/ae/

The Civil & Envirnomental Eng. Department site: http://www.engr.psu.edu/ce/

She did take a look at Penn State & liked what she found there. It's on her list of schools to look at. It's a bit farther from home than she would like though so who knows.
She also has an interest in Univ of Kansas.
All the looking so far has been through web sites. It's interesting how web sites can positively or negatively influence her interest. Sites like Penn State & KU are easy to navigate with lots of info which peaks her interest greatly.
