Tulane is my top choice school, and although I am currently undecided, I am leaning strongly towards majoring in Architecture. However, I just noticed that in order to be admitted into M.ARCH (the five year Masters program), an architecture portfolio is required, and even for a BS in architecture it is "encouraged" to submit a portfolio. I have no previous experience with architecture and I would have no idea how to even make a sketch, never mind how to put together a portfolio. Will submitting an application without a portfolio seriously hurt my chances at admission into the Tulane School of Architecture? Also, if I get into Tulane and I want to be a part of the M.ARCH program later on down the road, would there be any way for me to enter into the program after my first semester or first year, even though I didn't apply at the time I was admitted to Tulane, or is it now or never for admission into the M.ARCH program?

For the portfolio, I heard of several applicants last year who were admitted without the portfolio, then just had to submit some work before classes started. If you dint have prior experience, they seem to work with you. One commenter said last year that the portfolio “has to show you have the capability to be creative at some point in the future”, but doesn’t have to be drafting our even drawing. Anything creative/artistic should qualify.

You could enter the M ARCH after first semester/year, but you might have to sirens some extra time in the program. Note that when you’re accepted to Tulane, you’re accepted to all majors, not one program. If you’re admitted, you’ll be able to just declare architecture (4 year or 5 year)!
