Architecture acceptances 2010

This is adapted from posts of 2008 and 2009.

Soon there will be many wonderful acceptances on the Architecture Forum and am starting a thread where you can post your acceptances by your member name. Please add your name, then copy and paste the most recent post/list and add yours on. When you make your final decision where to enroll, please come back and add in FINAL by your choice.

Good idea!

Where did everyone apply to?

And do you know when your schools will start looking at apps / sending out notifications?

DS applied to U of Oregon, Temple, Syracuse, Iowa State, Penn State, Tulane, Clemson, Northeastern, and U Md.

He has gotten into Iowa State so far.

archguy- Accepted: Penn State. Applied/Pending: Carnegie Mellon, Syracuse, Virginia Tech

archguy, how would you rank the programs you applied to? I have seen several different rankings for these schools and it seems most lists put Syracuse very high. Would you agree?

@acme -
Although I did do some research with rankings (mainly using Design Intelligence’s - although I never bought their book) I chose my four schools based on how I felt about the curriculum and environment. I feel that all four schools are very excellent for architecture, and Syracuse is certainly an extraordinary program (as are the others). Honestly, I would be very happy to attend any of the four.
When I visited Syracuse, everyone was very positive about the students and the program overall. I would assume graduates are very successful. But I’m just a high school student; somebody working in the field already would have a better answer. Hope this helps you out and good luck.

QuietType’s D2:
Applied: Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, Penn State, Kent State(arch safety)
Accepted (so far): Cincinnati, Penn State, Kent State

D has been accepted to Iowa State, Ball State, U Tenn Knoxville, U Cincinnati.
Applied/Pending: NC State School of Design, UNC Charlotte, Virginia Tech.

Annlob, Re: UNC Charlotte-- do you know when they will send out the info about interviews? Their process was the strangest. DS was admitted to the main university, then had to answer five new essays and submit a new piece of art different from all his other portfolios. They invite 200 to interview and select 64.

When do schools usually start look at applications of M.Arch I applicants? And how long does it usually take after they have finished before they send the notifications out to applicants?

When my D applied to MArch programs, she found out in March…dates varied.

Acme, my D heard from UNCC this Tuesday (1/12). She has scheduled her interview for next Wed. 1/20. It will be about 45 minutes long.

Kent State and Ohio State so far

accepted to Clemson so far
still to hear from Virginia Tech and NCSU College of Design

Annlob, thank you. I spoke to someone in their admissions office and hope we will hear one way or another next week.

From what I’ve heard the vast majority of schools won’t even start looking at our apps until next month.

Sportsguy5, did you apply regular decision to VT? My d applied regular decision and they will get back to us one way or the other after Mar. 1. She really wants to go to NCSU - keeping our fingers crossed.

Does anyone know how UNC Charlotte’s program is perceived? They seem to have a rigorous application process, including an interview.

DS applied to Clemson, Tulane, Rice, WUSTL, and Furman (studio art). Accepted to Clemson and Tulane so far.

Annlob, yes I applied RD to VT. I made it past the first phase for NCSU COD by being invited to the portfolio review/information session on 1/30. Although I applied to Clemson, NCSU, and VT for architecture, more and more lately I’ve been thinking about pursuing another major for undergrad and then going on for a M.Arch. This way I have two different degrees to fall back on in case the economy tanks again. So, in reality, Dartmouth, Duke, UVA, and UNC are my top choices (but we’ll see how the Park Scholarship goes for NCSU). Good luck to your daughter: they are some fantastic programs!
