Wow csfmap. Excellent find! Thanks for that. It looks like the episodes might be available on hulu for free, also. Or those might only be clips.

Thanks for the quick feedback. csfmap, thanks for the link to Tulane videos…found them on Hulu…really interesting. fallenchemist, thanks for feedback on Tulane from DesignIntelligence…we had not invested in it. We are still looking for feedback on Maryland.

Brinker59, you can buy the DesignIntelligence report online fairly cheaply and just download it.

bump…bump…bump

Accepted: University of Minnesota, Tulane, Virginia Tech [yay! heard good things about all three, anyone got any info they want to share about each of the programs?]

Rejected: Cornell ED [go figure.]

Waiting to hear from: Carnegie Mellon, Notre Dame, and WashU in St Louis

I only know some things about the Tulane program. It is a 5 year program for a master’s, was recently recognized by a leading design journal as a “hidden gem”, has super study abroad opportunities, and with New Orlean still having a lot of rebuilding to do, students have seen major projects actually implemented. I am sure these are all fine programs though, because I know they are really good or even superior schools.

Just now jumping on this thread… UNCC has a great program and facility. I did a lot of research there for my senior exit project. I also went to the summer architect camp there. The people there are amazing. I also applied to NCSU and was invited to the admission review. It was an informational day if anything, but good to go to if you’re positive on where you want to go for sure.
I had an interview at UNCC and received acceptance earlier this week. Still waiting on NCSU though. Either way I think UNCC is a better choice because the facilities are newer and more spacious compared to NCSU, and the atmosphere seems more laid back although it is a rigorous program. Also NCSU’s program is kind of in a plateauing stage while UNCC’s is still on the rise. The university has been making major advancements in all art related departments and is gaining notariety.

Stryker, this kind of confirms what we found on our visit, too. Thanks for articulating it.

laure, congrats on the acceptance to Syracuse.

laure - did you apply to Syracuse EA/ED? Or does Syracuse do rolling admissions?

Accepted: Pratt, IIT, Vtech, Boston Architectural College, Calpoly, NJIT

Pending: CMU, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Cornell, Cooper Union, WUSTL, Princeton

My son received an email about a week ago from Virginia Tech and got his VT account updated today and it says he was admitted for university studies when he applied for architecture. He was upset but I called the school and they explained to me how it works for him to possibly get in after his first year. He really has his heart set on Virginia Tech but he really has his heart set on Architecture. He was admitted to two other schools for Architecture (University of Buffalo and NYIT) but has always wanted to go to VT. I don’t know what is the best route to go. What if he does a year of university studies and then does not get into Arch the next year. Has anyone had this experience with Virginia Tech . I am confused as to what to do.

pha516 - My daughter was also accepted for university studies, not architecture at VT. Based on other posts, I suspect she was close but fell short (1440 SATs, 4.0 weighted, lots of APs, sports). Similar to your son she really wants architecture; but she is not in love with any school at this point and time. She will likely steer away from VT. She is accepted at other schools that may not have quite the same reputation in architecture but are excellent schools and are offering merit/honors. Still waiting on ND, GeorgiaTech, Michigan, USC.

Brinker,

When my daughter was down to 2 choices, I cried (just a little - I have perspective) because she did not select Tulane. We were so impressed with their program and I thought it was a unique opportunity. As it turns out, she would have been in the freshman class that was sent home when Katrina hit.

Best of luck to your daughter.

Ah but I should point out, momoftwins, that those students came back after a semester and those architecture students have had an incredibly unique opportunity to see their work actually translated into real life as New Orleans rebuilds. I am sure your daughter had a great career wherever she ended up, but I think you’re instincts were right about Tulane and about New Orleans. So has she graduated, or was she in another 5 year program?

My son was declined architecture admission at NC State today. Go figure, he got in UT Austin already which he is OOS for. He actually liked UT better but I like the idea of in state tuition a lot better!!
