My son is currently a HS senior and will very likely be entering AU in 2011 as an architecture major, he currently qualifies for Presidential scholarship (tuition +) with good possibility of NMF (tuition + housing +).

I’m a bit confused about the actual cost for architecture majors and what is/isn’t included in Presidential scholarship. I see from AU website that 2009/2010 tuition structure includes “University Fee - College of Architecture, Design, & Const” of $5280 per semester. Is this full amount paid by Presidential scholarship or just the base amount? There is also a “CADC professional fee” of $2160 per semester for second thru fifth year assuming he makes it into the professional program. Again, is this included in the Pres. scholarship?

We will be attending the Admissions/Honor College reception next week but thought I would get input here first so I’ll have a better idea what questions to ask.

Our child is in Freshman Foundation Unit this year for Architecture - not a Presidential Scholar, but scholarships so it would not be the same as with a Full tuition Presidential Scholarship. I will tell you that there are a lot of additional expenses for Architecture estimated of $1,500 first year for equipment/supplies and constant expenses for projects - boards, paper, etc. which are not billed through the University and those would not be covered.

I just looked at the Tuition Fees Schedule on their site:
The 1st listed is regular tuition for Residents, Non-Residents - this fee excludes Architecture Students (Freshman Architecture students actually pay these amounts since they are considered Pre-Arch until Soph. year)
Then for Soph year on the amount with the Professional Fee per Semester:
University Fee - College of Architecture, Design, & Const. *** 5,280.00-residents, 11,520.00-non-residents.
The scholarship office I am sure would be able to answer this questions.

FYI,
I got clarification at the Admissions/Honors College reception last week that the Presidential scholarship just pays for the base tuition & fees, does not include the additional tuition/professional fees for architecture majors.

From what I understood the Presidential scholarship now covers 2/3 oos tuition. This is a change from last year where full oos tuition was covered. Did I miss something?
