My daughter has applied to the following Architecture schools and has received some acceptances so far. Assuming she gets accepted to all of them how would you rank them? I think this is the ranking order but not sure.

ND - BArch (5 years)

Wash U - Undergraduate+Masters (4+2 or 6 Years) (Also, do you gain automatic admissions to Wash U grad school upon completion of UG Architecture at Wash U or do you have to apply via portfolio, GRE, etc?)

Tulane - MArch (5 years)

Syracuse - BArch (5 years)

Also, is there really a big difference between these four (other than at Wash U: 4+2, you will get a Masters)? Thank you!

I don’t have insider information on any of these programs, but in making a decision your daughter should look at both the academic focus and career path opportunities.

ND for example is known for its emphasis on classical architecture.

The different time allotments and different combinations of undergraduate + graduate degrees is enough to make your head explode. That the path to a masters can vary from 5 to 8.5 years is not something you’ll find in other professions. (And what is an “undergraduate” masters anyway?)

Money is a key factor; those extra years add up.

The 5 year masters programs appear to be extremely narrow and streamlined, so another factor would be how much interest your daughter has in exploring other disciplines during her undergraduate years.

My understanding is that internship placement and post-graduate hiring tend toward the regional, so another consideration would be where she is most likely to live as a practicing architect.

Your WUSTL question is interesting. Your daughter might ask the architecture admissions what the official policy is. I would think that they give preference to their own undergrads, but there are no guarantees. But with a BS architecture, there are many other 2 year M.Arch options.
