architecture vs civil engineering

I’ve always known Architecture back home responsible of the building construction and civil for roads and bridges. But here I’m so confused, what does architects do in real world and what does civil do exactly.
thank you!

Civil engineering tends to be used for the big stuff while architectural or structural engineering is used for buildings. However technically I believe the latter are a subset of Civil engineering.

The structural engineers I use also do bridges and retaining walls.

Architecture is about creative design with consideration to structural needs.

Civil engineering is all about functional structure of buildings, bridges, tunnels and roads. Creativity is not the focus, practical efficiency is.

Architects design the plan and form of a building. They are the informal representative of the client and works with other consultants like engineers to design and oversee that the design is built. They work with contractors to make sure the intended design is constructed. Architects also makes sure a building follows safety regulations and building codes. While architects have to have a wide span of knowledge for their numerous tasks, engineers are specialized. Architectural and Structural Engineers makes sure that buildings stand up. They design the structural systems and choose the dimensions of structural members. They work with the architect to make sure the building stands up and carries loads properly.
