Architecture?

Miami of Ohio and Miami University are the same thing i guess, or are you referring to the University of Miami, coral gables? well they have a good 5yr arch prog in a vibrant environment. apart from Wash U, i don't really know much about the others. Wash U has a great 4+2 prog. and i've heard a little about UMich. But each has it's own unique atmosphere...are you considering a 4+2 or 5yr BArch program?
sorry, i don;t know much about the programs at your prospective schools. SRMom3, please is there anything specific you would like to point out about these programs? But Melissa, as SRMom3 earlier pointed, each arch school has it's unique culture, etc, so it's important to choose based on what you feel, and not necessarily what we say, rankings, etc. But apart from SRMom3, most of us will prolly offer biased info...

there has been quite a lot of discussion on several of those school...type them in the "search this thread" box and see if you can find what you want.

bneg, there's a question i want to ask you but i keep forgetting...

if a school doesn't require a portfolio e.g UCin, should you send one, or not?

i will be sending one to uc...UT specifies that any portfolio will be not be reviewed and returned untouched....i wonder why, because isn't the portfolio supposed to be the most revealing part of the application? but i guess some schools will get annoyed or something. i will be begging UT to accept one though~

cool. but UC stated that admissions was based solely on academic achievement and test scores. what do you think about the initial selection thing? i think it's cool. apply before november. and that comes before early action, after which follows regular...are you going for initial selection? do you know the statistics for UC hopefuls in previous years?

i don't know, uc seems to be very odd a school..it'll be impossible for a admissions decision to not be influenced by external stuff if they are willing to look at it. if not, i am guessing, i'll pm you on this one

interesting stat: 90.7 acceptance rate for fall 2004. average SAT 1120. i still can't find anything specific for SAID though.

how much are you planning to spend on your portfolio? for those that don't specify one, i am thinking that a digital portfolo might be much more economic than a printed one....but that doesn't seem too sincere, right?

and jrock, are you still considering IIT? i might have to try it out because there is that chance of a full tuition~

yeah, IIT remains there in the background. if anything happens, IIT is the last hope. ALl intl applicants will automatically get 9,000 bucks scholarship. then if you get above 1300, you'll be invited for the camras interview, etc.

yeah sure a digital portfolio is more economical. but most schools will specify either slides or printed. it's only those that don't require a portfolio you may consider sending a CDrom to, i guess.

Jrock, for cornell's intelletual interest sup. essay, what did you put last year?

sorry it's all on the pc back home, and sadly, i can't access it.
but, i tell you, it was all crap. because i applied a week after the deadline and it was all hurriedly executed...lol. but it all started when my school principal gave me a home plan magazine. that evoked my interest tho i'd always been interested in design, drawing plans for our future house, then i started designing homes for my friends, teacher, etc...and how i spend my spare time trying to think about the most efficient spatial design, etc, form and functionality...and how it all relaxes me...

ah.. that's good, i was hoping that they didn't want a specific 'subject area'

what do you think about IIT?

it's a cool place. bathed in the enduring legacy of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Situated in a National Historical Landmark. few minutes from downtown Chicago, birthplace of modern architecture in the United States and home of the prairie school.
but it's pretty much arch and arch alone you'll be doing for the next 5 year. nothing else. focus on hand drawing and brick house in the 1st year. it's a cool program.
the campus is small and in the middle of a large city. i don't like the feel much. but the dorms are superb - excellent. especially the high tech SSV - the first of its kind in any campus...but you know it's a more of a technical focus toward architecture, so expect to model a lot. there's a laser lab where students themselves go and fashion their modelling pieces...

the cornell supp is out on commonapp! the essays want mo more than 250 words, but the ewbsites limits anything beyond 1250 characters.... i wonder if it's supposed to be annoying.

wowey! cool. it's out. great!! i'll check it out. but what about the intl. supp?

the int'l supp are out too~ you get a link from commonapp. you filled them out last year right? they seem very annoying as well....

oh, and can i ask why IIT is your last choice?
