Architecture?

UBC has an interdisciplinary undergraduate program of Environmental Design, which is the prereq. for graduate study there under either urban planning or architecture. It is well-regarded and extremely competitive (full of nerdy, workaholic Asians!). McGill has something similar, and it is supposed to be a very highly rated program. I would be applying to very selective schools such as Cornell, UMiami, or MIT, but my GPA is only a 3.5, so that cuts out most of the major institutions, unfortunately. Thanks for the reply.

oh....wait do you mean that the ug program of Env.Des. is well-regarded or the grad? because from what i've heard UBC's best ug program would be commerce, then science, then arts....sand i've never heard of the ED program. i don't mean to sound like i know a lot, i just happen to live in BC. mcgill's ug program is unheard of as well... i think since you seem very interested already you will be quite suited to a more professional ug and professional grad other than grad with semi-relevent ug program. and i'm guessing that you have a strong interest right and not just choosing u/p because it's something easy or something your dad wants you to do....so i think your essays and your optional supplements will show that and make you a more interesting applicant than others, so you should really aim for dedicated programs a well!!! so have fun through the process!

thanks so much, that really helps. Good luck to you as well.

bump^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Does anyone know anything about the reputations of the architecture programs at University of Arizona, University of Oregon and University of Washington? Thanks for any info.

Oregon i think is ranked in top 14, but not top ten. The other two are not ranked, but this is just one ranking (DI).

are you on jrock? i haven't been on this thread for such a long time!!

yeah! just surfing the cornell threads.....'ssup!

i do that too...it's getting a bit boring now (can you believe it?). i mean the college thing was exciting, but i guess when the process is like nearly 4 months an acceptance letter isn't going to be really fun at all. I cna't imagine how it is for you!!! I sent an email on your doc...did you get it?

yeah, very very boring...thx, i'm just checking my email now...apparently, i've not received the email yet....

ah no wonder...you know cin did not receive my score reort from CB? CB screws up mailing something. as you can see i am quite unhappy about this!!! it was rolling admission too >_<

aw, did they tell you that when they found out? no wonder you hadn't received a decision since...[cin is rolling?].....

no, i emailed them 3 times. or else i never would've known....
can you believe it?? Although it is a happy ending for me (well, maybe not that happy if i could've made it in rolling), the same mistake made by CB could ruin someone's dream!

i didn't know there was a whole long thread of architecture students!!
COOL~~
this portfolio thing is driving me crazy....
how'd u guys set out your portfolios?

me and Jrock (it's been quite a while since we've had others join us) are both finnished with the PF.... there are limited resources on this subject, and so far there are: jimminy's PF, justinhui's PF at cornell forum, and menosdestres' pf at cornell's forum....examples from syracuse, pamphlet from syracuse, and brochure from RPI. I think that's it. There are some posts here about the programs....don't use anything from microsoft (it screws up resolution), and...I can't remember anything else!!!

so what is yours like so far??

jrock, i was trying to tell you that I cleared my inbox, and then yours was full so I couldn't tell you that ahahaha~~~ >_<lll

Hey guys, I've got a question.

I'm currently in Engineering, and after I get my bachelors degree I was thinking about going into Architecture. Do you really need to be a good artist in order to be a good architect? I mean, I can draw, just not extremely well. I can draft, but I don't paint or sketch portraits or anything.

Thanks

Creative ability and imagination are critical for architecture. I would try to take some drawing and studio courses before you make your decision to study architecture.

Yeah, that's probably true. My whole life I've been a top academic student, and I figured I could do anything I wanted. Now I know how everyone else feels, lol. Oh well.

hey guys, havent posted in a while.
ive just finished my first smester at the Rice School of Architecture and i dont think i could have made a better choice. THe professors and courses are amazing, as are the facilities and resources etc. All the projects have been immensely fun and have kept me interested for their entire length.
i suggest applying to Rice if you can, its tougher to get into than cornell, but its better, trust me on this.
