Are 3 subject tests enough?

Is it bad to apply to Wharton with only Math ii, USH, and World History? Should I take AP Physics junior year to prepare for the physics subject test?

Thanks!

There is no need to take AP Physics for the purpose of preparing for subject tests, this not just for Penn/Wharton but for almost all other colleges. Even MIT and Caltech, which require a science test, give you a choice of physics, chemistry and biology. Penn Engineering (but not Penn Wharton) recommends that you take the physics SAT2. And in practice you need not take AP Physics to prepare for the physics SAT 2. A solid high school physics course will suffice.

Take AP Physics because you’re curious and are prepared to study and do well on the course, and on the AP exam. Take AP courses in general (and not necessarily AP Physics) because Penn/Wharton is looking for applicants who have taken the most rigorous courses available to them at their high school and have done well.

You need take only 2 SAT2 tests for Penn. So you’re already set.

I’m thinking of doing AP Enviro science instead since I have too much EC’s and 5 other AP classes. Should I do that? Would Penn not like this and think that I chickened out?

Have you taken physics at all? if not, then take Honors Physics over AP Enviro.

I’m taking honors physics this year. It’s just that I don’t feel like it’s worth stressing over SAT Physics next year if I’m gonna be an econ major. I have USH, World, and Math 2 as well

Do you have AP Calc scheduled? Will you likely manage a 5 on the AP test? That would show rigor and could make for not having AP Physics.

I’m doing 5 ap’s this year, and yes I will get a 5 on calc bc most likely. Next year I’m planning to do 6.

AP Gov, Micro, Physics or Enviro, Mandarin, USH, Psych, Self study stats and comp gov. Plus Math 412 at a local college for financial mathematics and advanced stats.

They’re really not hard classes, just time consuming. Idk if I should do physics if I already have 3 subject tests. I just don’t know if a super selective school like Wharton would look down on me “chickening” out on it.

You are overanalyzing this. Colleges that receive tens of thousands of applications are not going to psychoanalyze each one. They have a checklist. 2 subject tests? Check. Moving on. That is as much time as they will spend thinking about it.

You’re covered on the subject tests. Your self studying AP’s won’t make a difference for admissions anyway, but do it if you like. Best of luck.

Thanks! This helps a lot

Yup, take APES rather than Physics, at this point you’re covered for curriculum rigor.

They’re not going to think you’re “chickening out”. Don’t think that they will overanalyze you. Wharton is a reach for anyone and if you get denied, it won’t be because they remember what SAT Subject tests you did. They’ll see you have 3 and be fine with it. You have a physics course under your belt now so take a course you enjoy.
