Hey everyone, this is my first post on CC and was wondering your opinion on whether taking 6 APs next year is too many. I am a rising senior and really want to learn and push myself next year. The classed I would be taking are:

AP English Language
AP English Literature
AP Calculus
AP World History
AP European History
AP US Government

I also would be taking two non APs
Spanish 4 (AP Spanish not offered)
Honors Physics (AP Physics not offered)

Thank you for your opinions and I hope you all have a great summer and next school year!

Ab, and i was worried about three different history classes, but I did take Honors Government this year, which made me think I could do all three. Thanks for your thoughts!

AB should be manageable, especially if you have a decent teacher.

The thing about doing all three is that you managed to pick ones with very little overlap. AP World is supposed to focus on everywhere except for the United States (although you also don’t really need to know about Australia/Oceania, except for the whole Great Britain used Australia as a penitentiary thing), and although it’ll cover some Euro AP European History will go really really in depth.

Although, if you’ve already done AP US History that should help alleviate some of the burden of AP US Gov.

Thank you again for your advice. I’m just mad because at my school it is hard to take AP’s until your Senior Year, so I was trying to fit in whatever I can.

I don’t necessarily think that 6 APs are too much, and you don’t have super hard ones in that combination. The only thing is that I don’t think you should take AP Euro, AP WH, & AP Gov all at once. You’ll have lots of writing/papers for all those plus English Lit. I agree about the overlap thing someone else mentioned. I would exchange one of those APs for something else. There’s a lot of information for history courses- especially AP Euro. Plus, AP history/social studies courses (Euro, WH, & Gov) tend to have a lot of reading homework in the textbook. You’ll also most likely have a lot of reading for Lit too. The Euro exam tends to be somewhat difficult, which I’ve taken, but I’ve heard the AP WH exam isn’t bad. AP US Gov is also a very easy exam- took that as a sophomore. I personally know some of this because I took 5 this year, including a few of those. This year (senior) I took AP Euro, Calc AB, English Lit, Spanish Lang, & Psych. I thought Calc & Psych were very easy exams.

If you are going to go ahead with 2 history APs, I’m wondering if you have taken AP US History already. That would give you some idea of how to study for them and help you succeed on 2 in one year.

i have not taken ap us because our school doesnt offer it, i took honors us hitsory as a sophomore which we had the option of taking the ap exam for but i did not take it. thanks for the response!

My son took AP World and AP USH together and did fine. (plus Calc AB, Physics, Eng Lit)
He had AP Euro the prior year which seemed more intense (glad he wasn’t taking additional history at the time.)

i took ap psych this year and it was super easy, a+ all year and probably a 5 on the exam. our school really doesnt offer ap’s till your senior year, but my regular courses have been way to easy!

Two english classes and 3 history doesn’t sound like a good idea. I would change at least one to science, and take BC instead of AB. I would personally drop European History.

Unfortunately my school offers 0 AP Sciences classes and only calc AB. I was really hoping to take AP Bio but it got shut down, which is why I’m in this conundrum.

AP English Language- if you’re good at essays and reading comp, then you can ace it
AP English Literature- I hear its really tough
AP Calculus- Easy if you understand math and calc
AP World History- If you are good at memorizing events?!? My school doesn’t offer this so I dont know much about it
AP European History- heard it was hell, but if you can do it, you can handle any AP
AP US Government- yeah…I live in Canada, so I know nothing about this…
Hope it helps!
I am taking 7 APs in my junior year…soooooooo nervous

It’s certainly possible, but prepare to work… A LOT.

AP English Language: pretty straightforward, just make sure you can write good essays and have at the bare minimum a decent level of reading comprehension
AP English Literature: same as above
AP Calculus: as many have already said, if you have a strong math basis and a decent teacher, this shouldn’t be overly difficult
AP World History: haven’t taken this personally, but I’ve heard that there is a lot of information to learn/memorize. However, I’ve also heard that this is one of the easier APs.
AP European History: took this this past year, and I have to say, there is way too much info on this test for it’s own good. Lots of work. Lots of tests.
AP US Government: Have you taken some form of US Gov/History in the recent past? If so, they’ll probably help you here.

3 histories and 2 English APs will certainly be difficult to handle, especially all together in one year.

honestly it just really depends on your school- at some a lot of kids take 6-7, while at some it’s impressive to take 2, so i would base your decision not on what we say, but on the reaction at your school, whether that’s considered normal or not. personally i think it might be overkill, though lang probably won’t be much on top of lit, gov is nothing (i self studied for it mainly in a night after taking apush and feel good about a 4 or 5), and ab calc won’t be bad if you’re good at math, but the other three will be tough, especially together, so you may want to consider if you can get good grades in all of these, and if not think about dropping one or two.

AP calc ab isn’t bad at all. I think i spent only about 30 minutes a day for 3-4 days a week doing homework and studying. I had more homework for world history honors than my ap calc class… -_-
