Are accepted student weekends/openhouses

Most schools that my son applied to, give application decisions in early April. But wouldn't that mean that their accepted student weekend visitation would be later in April in order to get the deposit and answer by early May? It sounds like there could be scheduling conflicts if the student gets accepted to more than one school that he wants to visit again. Any thoughts? thanks

Yep, lot of conflicts. And if there are merit money interviews, even more conflicts. Conflicts with senior year activities too, especially if the kid is in performing arts when everything is happening. Pain in the neck.

Crazy these days. Gotta visit to decide where to apply. Visit after applying to interview and show interest, accepted student days or visit to decide whether to go there after acceptance, orientation in the summer, move in day, and then the parents come home to an invite for Family Weekend. That's why it is wise to consider how much trouble it is going to be to get to the campus. When you start the process, you are hot to trot, but several thousand miles and dollars and hours later, you get pretty danged tired.

S had a scheduling conflict. He went to one of the colleges on a different weekend. It was actually a great way to see the college in its normal state.

cptofthehouse, everything you say makes perfect sense. This is our first college app experience. Distance is something we talk about a lot. We are in NJ, and most of my sons schools are in the metropolitan area, but one is in Indiana (Notre Dame). Thanks

CMA1 - congrats to your son on his acceptances. My suggestion would be for the ND one: it is likely to be the most different from home base (being in the midwest), and therefore important to take a test drive, as it were. Perhaps he could take a day or two off of school and visit the closer ones.

Thanks for the congratulations, but we haven't heard from schools, except getting into Rutgers, our state school. We will not know until April. Thanks
