My daughter is applying early decision to Duke and was just contacted to have an alumni interview. Does this mean she is a strong candidate or do all early decision applicants have alumni interviews? I was just curious what the protocol is.

@jeddie: While Duke attempts to provide all applicants (ED and RD) with interviews, this is sometimes impossible due to the volume of applications, the number of alumni interviewers in certain regions, the geographic dispersion of candidates, and the local interviewers’ competing personal/professional demands. With this said, there is NO correlation between receiving an interview and an applicant’s competitiveness for admission.

I agree with @toptier. There is no relationship with how strong of a candidate your daughter is and being contacted. In fact we alumni don’t have access to grades/test scores when doing the interviews, so we are completely ‘blinded’.

Good luck
