Hey I don't do a lot of clubs but I was wondering if any of this would be highly regarded at top colleges (& maybe shift my focus more in one direction):

I am interested in business/economics.

-Starting a business (profitable but not much...a couple hundred dollars w/ a several hundred dollar initial investment)
-Writing a book (what if it isnt' finished in nov?)
-Caucasian who took 4 yrs of Chinese + is leading a program to donate items to orphanges in China (my family adopted my sister from xianzhen)

Would any of these be considered a major hook? Or are they at least minor hooks that are impressive put together?

THANKS!

out of curiosity, what colleges are you wanting to apply to?

Can you tel me what kind of business you do? Like what do you do?

To me, they all are minor hooks (the book would be a major hook if published by the time you apply), and you certainly sound like an interesting applicant, so hopefully you'll be able to bring that out in your essays. Combined, they are impressive.

dude idk exactly what a hook is but if i were on the admissions board, you would be a very interesting applicant
good luck bro

My business is just a little thing I do...I sell these stickers that make graphing easier (stickers have 4-quad grids on them...i recently found out they do exist elsewhere but i am still allowed to sell them)

My college list right now (still narrowing) for economics/business major is:

Most likely will apply to: UPenn Wharton, Stanford, NYU Stern, Berkeley, UCLA, Ann Arbor, USC, & UCSD

May apply to: Princeton, MIT, Williams, Duke, Cornell, Pomona, Northwestern, UChicago, CMU, Univ of Wisconsin-Madison

I feel like I'm bragging saying I might apply to a a bunch of these schools but it would be moreso that I'd get lucky w/ one of them.

Thanks for everyones input so far.

I've written (unfortunately not published) three books, and my teacher said they are good "spider collections" (his slang for hooks). So, let's hope so. I would turn in a query (i.e., the thing you would send a publisher) as a supplement to your ap if you think the book is good. Then at least they'll see what it is about.

That's a LOT of schools, just my opinion.

Yeah I know I'm still narrowing it down.

those activites really make you interesting and set you apart so i do think it will help you with these tough schools.

Also dont worrying about narrowing down. try to find schools that interest you and also get safeties adn good matches. LOL i applied to 20 schools and I am doing fine now though i wouldnt suggest it.

What are these books about (for the people that wrote them)?

Mystery involving things in the civil war...modern times

Don't want to go too much into it. Too many smart people on here who will have it published by the time I finish my first draft! =)

Me, I do some weird little mix between high and quest fantasy. Lots of revolution and people who can fly. If it isn't a hook, I'm in trouble b/c it IS my life.

Any publishers around? Please? I've had some prof's say it is publishable, just don't have the guts to send 'em.

That's cool. I had a great idea for a book recently--I was going to turn "The Epic of Gilgamesh" into a novel, but, as with all my good ideas, someone had already done it. Blaaaahhhhhh!

I wrote an anthology of love poems. Can you tell me how I can get them published? How much will the whole process cost in terms of time and money? And who should I contact?

Please help ME!!!!
