"A Hook"

Hi everyone, I have been reading a lot of threads on applying to Ivies, and people responding “slim chance unless you have a hook” ect.

Besides URM and First Generation what are some hooks.

For the past 6 months I’ve been running my own business and have made over $30,000 myself personally with no help whatsoever. Furthermore, all of my Extracurriculars scream business (Student Gov Treasurer, Stock Market Challenge, Entrepreneurship Club, ect.) and I am going to be attending MIT Launch this summer a selective entrepreneurship program.

So what I’m asking is would my business/entrepreneurship skills applied in real life be a hook? Because I am sure there are some high school kids successfully running their own businesses, but not a ton.

Hooks are something that the colleges need like:
URM
RECRUITED Athletes
First generation
Legacies

Everything else doesn’t really add to their recruitment stats.

It is a solid EC, not a hook.

Also if you’re from an extremely wealthy/powerful family (like Malia Obama and Harrison Frist)
