I want to major in political science and/or international relations. If none of the colleges I list are good in those two subjects, can you recommend what is (and please don't say Harvard or anything like that, because I'm can't afford it and I'm not that smart)?

University of Delaware
Drake University
Elon University
U of Minnesota: Twin Cities
North Carolina State
U of Colorado: Colorado Springs
Illinois State
Iowa State

Academically, only U of Delaware is listed (by Fiske Guide to colleges) as having a strong program in either subject (IR, specifically).

If you’re interested in political campaigns, Iowa, North Carolina, and Colorado are better states to be in, being swing states. Iowa in particular is good, because the caucuses for both parties will take place while you’re a college student, so there will be plenty of volunteering, internship, and staff opportunities.

If you’re interested in running for office someday, it is best to try and think about where you will eventually live and start your political career. Aside from the top national universities, the best political connections are typically found at a state flagship university, because the students there will eventually become political leaders in that state.

If you’re interested in law school, or in graduate school in a particular area of policy, that is also something to keep in mind.
