Are APs absolutely necessary?

Hi all,
I am a junior who is not taking any APs this year because my school only offers 2 and they didnt fit in my schedule. I take all honors classes besides my standard math.

i am looking to apply to GW, syracuse, possibly emory, michigan, tulane, lehigh. Would you say AP classes are a definite need for these schools? If, so how many should I take next year.

i will be taking the AP lang test in the spring as our honors english is basically AP level.

The most selective colleges will want to see that you choose the most rigorous course work available to you, whether or not it is labeled “AP”.

Exactly. You can’t take what is not offered, and colleges know that.

well tons of APs are offered senior year, in practically every class besides english.

Do you plan on taking any of them?

Course rigor is important at selective colleges. You should plan to take a few, if you can handle a larger work load. Also, ask your counselor to explain that due to course conflicts, you were unable to take APs this year. Though if the conflicts were due to electives, that isn’t going to look as good.

Well, perhaps you should have said that from the outset, since that contradicts your original post. Regardless, course rigor is important for selective colleges, whether the course is labelled AP or not.
