senior year for me will definitely be my most rigorous year. I am taking 5 AP's all together (although I may switch out of 2 semester long APs into either AP Lit or Calc AB) but I was wondering if it matters as much as my classes freshman to junior year? My schedule was by no means rigorous freshman/sophomore year, but does a strong upward trend in rigor concluding in senior year make up for that at all?

Of course it matters. Colleges, especially selective colleges if they are on your mind, will wonder why you aren’t taking challenging courses and may even deny you for that, even if you have a high GPA.
