Are Athletics a Factor in Admissions for the General Applicant?

It’s well known that Harvard gives applicants numerical ratings in categories such as academics, extracurriculars, and personal qualities. It’s also known that recruited athletes have a much higher chance of admission than a general applicant. Are athletics considered their own category in the numerical score for non-recruited athlete applicants, or would they be grouped in with extracurriculars?

I, for example, didn’t play any sports throughout high school because I have a physical deformity that prevents me from doing so. This isn’t mentioned anywhere in my application besides a passing reference in one of the supplements. I’m not a stellar applicant even without sports included, I’m just curious as to how the admissions process works.

@Data10 kindly answered this question for me in another thread. I think I can link to it here: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/22517676/#Comment_22517676
