This question may have been answered before, but what is the correlation? How much do athletics help? I've been in contact with the cross country/track coach for the past few weeks and he said that I would most definitely make a significant impact in running if I am admitted and attend MIT. So what does that mean for my admissions chances? I know at the ivy leagues (although they are all D1), they admit students who would otherwise be flat out rejected if they are recruited. To what extent is this true at MIT?

It is not true to any extent at MIT. At MIT, athletics is a helpful factor for an otherwise qualified candidate, much like other high-level ECs about which a student is passionate.

Last year, about a third of art, music, and athletic recruits were admitted. Athletic recruitment is a great thing, but is not a sure thing.

That was the answer I was expecting. Thank you!

The coaches fill out a form that goes into your application, but I don’t know what happens beyond that.
