<p>As a self proclaimed Azn nerd, I know how the stereotype goes and I know it is true to a certain extent. I am just wondering what all of you guys think? Do azn's tend to be more academic than other ethnicities and if so, why? Is it because of helicopter azn parents pressuring them to study or because azns are perhaps inherently smarter? Please no racist responses. Let's stick to the facts...</p>
<p>Hm. I read a study somewhere about all races having equally (or almost equally) similar intelligence levels. The only thing that makes Asians smarter is because of the internal drive to become the best. I don't know what kind of experiment was done though. Sounds interesting to me.</p>
<p>Welll, i don't honestly believe that's true in many ways. I'm a mexican and I get what has to be done, but then people tend to think i'm stupid. Too many mexicans, my race show there stupidness to so many people, that when others see mexicans like me (not stupid) they think i would cheat when i get good grades on an assignment. There are many azn's who are not smart, but then people think all of you are for some reason. Oh yeah, one more thing. Last Week, an azn dude wanted to cheat off my paper and that shows that not all azn's are smart, so azn's aren't smarter. Otherwise, everyone is equal, it's just up to you if you want to better yourself, not about the race.</p>

<p>In addition, it is believe that many asians have been shaped by Confucian values which stress education and the civil service system in ancient China. However statistics show that Ashkenazi Jews have higher IQs than the typical asian. This might be from the fact that Jews have been on the run almost during the entire span of recordable history, thus survival of the fittest or in this case the smartest.</p>
<p>One must also consider that "smart" doesn't necessarily have to be in academics. </p>

<p>This shows that blacks tend to have faster movement, therefore as we see in the olympics, they tend to dominate many of the speed sports (or for that matter, most sports along with whites) and doing well in sports is indeed a type of smart. </p>
<p>Also for a while I have pondered the phenomenon of why asians are good at sports such as ping-pong and badminton. This data above clearly substantiates the fact that they're good at those sports. Both ping-pong and badminton involve very, very quick reaction times.</p>
<p>I didn't say it was true. I don't believe that most Asians are smart, or that URM races are stupid. It's more based on potential and willingness to work hard individually.</p>
<p>I hate it when people think, "Oh, you're Asian, you must be smart." It seems like now there are people who assume that this race is smarter and high intelligence is expected when it comes to meeting an Asian. It is hard to live up to such expectations, and I have seen plenty of Asians who are not the smart and geeky type that a lot of people imagine them to be. On the other hand, I have seen a number of Mexicans and blacks work really hard and go on to attend prestigious colleges.</p>

<p>right on that kchen, i honestly believe everyone is equal in learning. I've known many azns who aren't smart.</p>
<p>Please do not take the data in too deeply. Nothing in this world is a definite!!! It just shows the main consensus, and it is absolutely no excuse for doing well or poorly. You may be the next Einstein to prove them wrong, who knows.</p>

<p>I never said that. I just know in general that asians are stereotyped as being nerds and more academic than other ethnicites and I was simply asking what others thought about this. Never did I give a definitive conclusion that asians indeed are smarter. </p>
<p>Your black or white thinking does demonstrate one point however. It shows that people of any ethnicity (black white purple or green) can be subject to moronicness.</p>

<p>I don't think genetics or race or whatever affects actual intelligence. Certain cultures embrace learning and education more than others. Some people genetically have the upper hand in terms of learning and intelligence, but there is no way you can generalize a whole race. I think culture has a lot to do with it. There is a major difference between doing well in school and being very intelligent. But some people and some cultures like to equate the two.</p>
<p>Maybe its becoz Asian cultures ususally lay a lot of stress on education.</p>

<p>Yeah I agree with the 'lot of stress on education' thing. 1st, 2nd (or maybe 3rd) generation Asian immigrants have the whole "you have to be the best and outshine all the others" thing drilled into their heads.
As asians immigrate from asia to somewhere, it's still in their heads and as they raise their children, they drill into their children's heads. The children will grow up but it's less likely that they'll drill it into their children's heads because of not experiencing the massive competitive nature of asian education firsthand. I think that the 5th generation immigrants vs. the Asians in Asia will slightly have different perspectives on 'being the best'.</p>
<p>My mum's friend just immigrated from Korea last year. Her son's just started HS. And she's looking for a tutor to teach her son economics and busness studies. And economics and buisness studies start in 11th grade.. poor him..</p>
